Facebook lets users to create two types of links: those that lead to other content on the Internet, and those that redirect someone to another profile within the site.

Links that lead to another website will open in a new browser window or tab, depending on the user’s Internet settings. If you create a hyperlink for a friend’s name, people who click the link are directed to her profile in the same browser window.

a. Click inside the “What’s on your mind?” field at the top of your Wall, or the “Write something…” field at the top of a friend’s Wall.

b. Enter “www.” followed the link’s unique URL. For instance: “www.examplesite.com”. Alternatively, you may copy and paste the link from its original location on the Internet.

Click “Post” to bring up a preview and choose a thumbnail image for the link – use the arrows next to “Choose a thumbnail” to select one, or check the box next to “No thumbnail” to exclude the thumbnail feature. Click “Post” again.

c. Make the name of a friend show up as a hyperlink in a comment or post by entering a “@” and then begin to type her name. Facebook generates a list of friends who match your entry as you type – click her name in the list to select her.

Your friend’s name will appear as a blue hyperlink in your post, and clicking on the link directs people to her Facebook profile.

NOTE: Before you proceed on Facebook, bear in mind that in addition to creating a hyperlink for a friend, you may also create a link within a post for a group, application, event or page.
