FG Extends Deadline for Barring of Sims Without NIN for 6 Weeks

Following the large crowd of people struggling to register for National Identification Number to avoid their sim cards being barred by Network providers, the Federal Government has on Monday approved the extension of the deadline for a provision NIN by subscribers of telecommunication services.

The extension goes does: For subscribers with NIN, the extension is for 3 weeks, from 30th December 2020 to 19th January 2021, while for subscribers without NIN the extension is for 6 weeks from 30th December 2020 to 9th February 2021.

The extension came shortly after the stakeholders meeting in the communication sector organized by the Honourable Minister of communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami.

In a release made after the meeting title “Extension of Registration Period and Cancellation of USSD and Verification Fees”, measures have been put in place for smooth registration in compliance with covid-19 protocols, mostly use of facemask and maintaining of social distancing.
