The Hyundai Veloster N Deserves More Respect For These 10 Reasons

The Hyundai Veloster N is one of the most entertaining and driver-focused cars in its class, but it is sometimes overlooked in favor of more well-known rivals. The Veloster N was Hyundai’s first attempt at creating a legitimate fun-to-drive track-ready hot hatch for its thronging American clientele.

The Veloster N is commonly regarded as Hyundai’s answer to fire-breathing premium competition vehicles such as the Focus ST, Subaru WRX, and, of course, the Volkswagen GTI, due to its 3-door sports compact coupe design and wealth of exciting amenities.

Despite its greatness, the Hyundai Veloster N may be customized in a number of ways, making the already fantastic coupe even better. Since its debut in 2019, the front-wheel-drive hot hatch has captivated the automotive world, thanks to its high fun-to-dollar ratio.

As a result of some of the arguments we’ve raised here, we believe the Hyundai Veloster N deserves more respect from the automotive community.

Intensified For Pleasure

The Veloster N is known for its speed and track talents as a hot hatchback, but it wasn’t designed for them. According to Albert Biermann, Hyundai’s performance director, the Veloster N was designed to provide its drivers a lot of joy.

Rather than focusing on lap times, Biermann and his crew put the Veloster N through a series of testing at the Nürburgring in order to make it the most exciting hot hatch on the market.

Performance Package

The Veloster N’s base four-cylinder engine produces 250 horsepower, which is plenty of power for the coupe to dazzle on the track. Nonetheless, Hyundai went it a step further by adding a $2,100 performance package, which increased the car’s performance even further.

The performance package includes a variable exhaust valve system, an electronic limited-slip front differential, 19-inch wheels, and a 25-horsepower increase. This optional 25 horsepower Performance package, for example, is now standard in the 2021 model.

Upgrades to the Structure

The Veloster N received extensive structural enhancements for its function as a fun-to-drive performance coupe, setting it apart from other Velosters. A reinforced underbody and shock towers are among the modifications, resulting in a frame that is 7 percent more robust than a standard Veloster.

The length of the front roll center was also enlarged for additional mechanical grip, while Hyundai altered the engine and transmission mounts for less drivetrain movement and separated vibrations.

Optional Transmission

Hyundai’s Veloster N has only a six-speed manual transmission before the 2021 model year. This transmission aids in the effective management and distribution of the power generated by the conventional four-cylinder engine.

However, the newest model is even better, as Hyundai has equipped the Veloster N with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to handle the increased power output of the 2021 model.

Attractive Features

Cool features boost a car’s value, and the Veloster N has plenty of them. The paddle shifters in the 2021 model are an example. They are rapid gear shifting levers that are frequently positioned near or behind the steering wheel in sporty trims of cars.

Adaptive suspension dampers, lightweight sport seats, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and LED external lighting are among the other highlights. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver attentiveness warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are among the safety features.

An outstanding performance

Despite the fact that it wasn’t widely expected, this rowdy hot hatch delivers impressive performance to deserve its “N” badge. While the first two models had a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque (with a 25-horsepower Performance package), the third and most recent model has a 275-horsepower turbo engine as standard.

The 2021 Hyundai Veloster N accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds, all at 102 mph, according to a Car & Driver test.

Drive Modes that can be customized.

A customized drive mode is a premium feature, and it’s one of many that sets the Veloster N apart from other cars in its price range. This function allows the driver to select desired combinations of numerous settings, ranging from steering heft to suspension stiffness.

Eco, Normal, Sport, and N driving modes are preset on the drive-mode selector. The N is the most dynamic of the bunch, providing users a wide range of custom-tailored options.

Relatively inexpensive

The Hyundai Veloster N had a starting price of $27,830 when it was debuted in 2019, and the 2020 model had a starting price of $28,595. As a result, the first two models of the sports coupe were sold for less than $30,000.

Furthermore, the 2021 model of the car is the most expensive, starting at $33,255; yet, for its performance prowess and other upgrading options on the car, the new Veloster N is far less expensive than its performance counterparts.

Awards

Like a monument to its prestige, the Veloster N has won various automotive honors, some of which are from the automotive press. The Road and Track Performance Car of the Year Award for 2020 is one of these accolades.

The Veloster N won the title despite competition from more expensive and well-known world-class sports cars such as the Lamborghini Huracán Evo, McLaren 600LT Spider, and Porsche 911 Carrera S. It’s a remarkable achievement.

Effortlessly Fantastic

The Hyundai Veloster N’s narrative is one of effortless greatness. For example, although Porsche is required to manufacture a 911 and Chevrolet is required to build a Corvette, Hyundai is not required to build a high-performance vehicle like the Veloster N. But it did, purely for the pleasure of driving, rather than out of responsibility.

However, the Hyundai Veloster N deserves more credit for its ability to combine all of these wonderful features into a budget-friendly compact… for the purpose of thrill-seekers like us who are looking for a good time.
