2022 Genesis GV70: Everything You Need To Know

Crossovers and SUVs, as we all know, are currently driving the automobile industry. Almost every automaker now provides at least one crossover or SUV, with more on the way in the coming years, and sedans and hatchbacks are being phased out at a breakneck pace.

Luxury labels are no exception, but they’ve pushed it to a new level. At least six or seven crossovers and SUVs are available from the Big Three European premium brands.

This is why many people were perplexed when Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, was launched in 2015.

The brand debuted with only three sedans at the time, making it tough for them to make a statement. On the other hand, Hyundai is taking the Genesis brand seriously and appears to have learned its lesson.

They debuted the outstanding GV80 SUV in 2020. Even though, there was a missing link: a tiny crossover model, which is a lucrative and competitive sector.

The Genesis GV70, which will be available in 2022, is a tiny crossover that is ready to take on the Germans.

A Brief History of The 2022 GV70

The Genesis GV70 is a compact crossover, as previously stated. It sits just below the GV80 in the lineup, and it confronts severe competition from the Audi Q5, BMW X3, superb Volvo XC60, and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The GV70, like its brand brothers, utilizes Genesis’ fresh and distinct design language. The trapezoidal grille and parallel line headlamps dominate the front.

Unlike the G80 and G90, the headlamps don’t slope out towards the front fenders.

The side profile is straightforward, with only one sharp crease running the length of the side.

The GV70 also performs a better job of implementing the floating C-pillar concept than automobiles like the Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The Genesis parallel-line taillights are featured on the back and two exhaust outlets that vary in shape depending on the model.

Engine Options

The GV70 will be available in North America with two different powerplant options. Both of these features have been carried over from previous Genesis models.

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine produces 300 horsepower and comes standard with an 8-speed automated transmission and RWD.

A 3.5-liter turbo V6 with 380 horsepower and AWD, as well as an 8-speed automated transmission, is the next step up. According to Genesis, the latter can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

Genesis will also offer a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 211 horsepower in other markets. The Multi-Terrain Control system will be standard on AWD-equipped GV70 models, letting the driver select different settings based on the terrain.

Genesis also emphasizes the GV70’s sportier and more dynamic nature, including a Launch Control system and a limited-slip differential in some GV70 versions.

Make no mistake: the GV70 is not a BMW X3; while it may be more fun than other Genesis models, it should nonetheless favor comfort over sportiness.

Plush Interior With Plentiful Standard Features

Anyone who has spent time in a recent Genesis model should be familiar with the GV70’s interior.

The steering wheel on most GV70 vehicles is shaped like a surfboard, while the Sport gets a more typical three-spoke version. A 12.3-inch 3D instrument cluster is mounted directly behind the steering wheel.

A big 14.5-inch touchscreen display with built-in navigation, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection, sits atop the dashboard.

Thankfully, Genesis has kept the traditional climate controls rather than incorporating them into the screen.

The transmission selector dial is designed to look like a beautiful diamond. If previous Genesis models are any indication, the interior quality and finish will be excellent.

The GV70 is loaded with technology, as one would expect from a luxury crossover.

There’s a radar system that scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension accordingly, as well as the ability to start the car remotely and move it forward and backward using only the keyfob and a fingerprint authentication system.

Highway Driving Assist II semi-autonomous driving, frontal collision warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and a driver attentiveness warning system are all included in the GV70’s safety features.

The GV70 seats five people and has a load capacity of 29 cubic feet with the rear bench up and 57 cubic feet with the rear bench folded down.

The Arrival

In the summer of 2021, the GV70 will be available for purchase. There are five trim levels available at launch, all of which are quite reasonably priced.

The base Standard model costs roughly $42,000, and the Sport Prestige model with the V6 engine and AWD costs around $63,000.

The new GV70 makes a good argument for itself: it’s reasonably priced, elegantly styled, fun to drive, and loaded with the latest technology and advances. Do German automakers have cause for concern? Possibly.
