Peugeot 3008: Here Are Our Favorite Features

Peugeot automobiles have been in existence from the 18th centuries producing fantastic cars but none of such is as modified and classical as the 3008. The Peugeot 3008 is the lightly facelifted second generation and the French firm has certainly tried to give it’s family SUV a striking appearance.

The Peugeot 3008 is not left out in the current trend of bold styling. Adopting some design cues from the sharp-looking 208 hatchback and 2008 SUV, such as ‘saber-toothed’ LED daytime running lights, a frameless front grille and smoked LED tail-lights.

The 3008 has a striking interior resemblance to the 5008 with an avant-garde dashboard practically seen in motor show concept cars sending a strong message to rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Karoq and Seat Ateca.

Peugeots quirky design is second to none as this is one of its top-selling points Thankfully, the updates did nothing to diminish the 3008’s swish interior.

This is an impressive interior for so many reasons and the mid-life has only served to improve it.

A 21st-century dashboard that is so spectacular with climate controls within the slightly laggy but now larger 10-inch touchscreen, with no simple ‘back’ button to CarPlay, sat-nav, or radio once you’ve adjusted the temperature.

Instead, an awkward three-finger press gets you to the home screen. The factory-fitted leather seats come with massage functions and there is ample space for enough storage at the boot.

The 3008 adopts Peugeot’s big-car model architecture Known as ‘EMP2’, this platform also serves under the 5008 and 508 saloon, as well as under bigger models from Citroen, Vauxhall and DS Automobiles.

The use of the platform allows Peugeot to offer fully independent suspension and four-wheel drive (via an electric rear axle) in higher-end versions of the car; but it also rules out any pure electric derivative (move down a market segment and you can opt for an all-electric e2008 crossover hatchback, of course)

Panoramic Roof

With an opening up to 16 inches wide with a touch of a button, the roof has two large glass panels that span nearly the whole roof and has an electric sliding blind that bathes the cabin in bright natural light.

The glass panoramic roof makes the interior of the car feel more spacious while the bright natural light that permeates the cabin improves the mood of its occupant.

The Peugeot 3008 comes with varieties of performances to suit its customers. There are two petrol engines, two diesels and two plug-in hybrids in the Peugeot 3008 line-up, with a range of different power outputs.

The line-up starts with the 1.2-liter three-cylinder PureTech 130 petrol, which produces 129bhp and 230Nm of torque, and is available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearboxes. It’s a great choice, being quiet at low revs and sounding sweet as you get up to speed

In comparison, the 1.2 PureTech against the SEAT Ateca 1.0 TSI, the 3008’s stronger engine delivered a performance advantage. It covered 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds – a tenth quicker than the SEAT – while another 30Nm of torque at 230Nm in total and a 30kg lighter.

The 3008 accelerated from 50-70mph in sixth in 10 seconds flat – 3.1 seconds up on the Ateca – while in fifth it was 1.4 seconds faster. The margin was closer between 30-50mph in third and fourth, but the Peugeot still had the edge.

The six-speed manual’s shift action wasn’t as mechanically precise as the SEAT’s, but compared with Peugeots of the past it’s a much tighter and more pleasing action.

With the gasoline engines paving way, Peugeot has announced the launch of two plug-in hybrid vehicles. The 179bhp 1.6-liter petrol engine in both the front-wheel-drive HYBRID 225 and the all-wheel-drive HYBRID4 300 is coupled with a single electric motor in the 225 and dual electric motors in the 300.

The acceleration time from 0 to 62 mph has been improved to 8.9 and 6.1 seconds, respectively.

Towing Capacity

This Crossover with its SUV-inspired styling, clean and minimal interior
Is not just a good-looking car. The 3008 is very capable too. In everyday driving, the ride is considerably more comfortable than a Honda HR-V‘s and the engine keeps itself to itself unless revved hard.

The 30-60mph time of 15.3 seconds is respectable and the car coped well enough with a hill start on a 1-in-6 gradient.

The Peugeot 3008 can certainly pull a caravan. With a towing capacity of a maximum of 1300 kg and a trunk capacity of 591 liters that can be increased if you fold the rear seat, this car is great to go on a road trip.

Besides, there are many storage spaces in the passenger compartment, in the doors, in the center console, and under the armrests.

Overall, it is a very practical car with generous space and a decent towing capacity.

Reliability and Safety

Modern car-building procedures allow a company or group of companies to produce multiple models from a single platform (the mechanical skeleton that supports the bodywork).

The Peugeot 3008 is no exception, with many concealed elements shared with the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso MPV and the Peugeot 308 family hatchback.

Acquiring one of the 3008 means you are driving one of the safest cars ever produced as the car came out second place out of 75 cars in the 2020 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, scoring highly in every category including reliability.

Such a high score is indicative of how pleased 3008 owners are with the car as an ownership proposition, which is obviously very encouraging if you’re considering buying one.

Superb Handling

Even though it performs admirably and has good traction, the front tires tend to understeer a bit when a change in direction is too sudden. Other than that, the new 3008, when driven sedately, provides effortless acceleration and exceptional handling. It allows for comfortable and easy driving.

So, whether you are battling a treacherous mountain road or out on an evening cruise, you can be confident in its superb handling.
