2020 Toyota Sequoia: Here Are The Reasons It Is a Dependable Family SUV

The Toyota Sequoia is the largest of Toyota’s SUVs and competes favorably in the mega SUV class that has the likes of Ford Expedition, Nissan Amanda, Chevrolet Tahoe, etc. due to the emergence of crossovers, mega SUVs have gone into extinction as the crossovers provide superb styling and all-round performance with high tech infotainment.

The Toyota Sequoia came into existence in 2004 with its second-generation launched in 2008. Toyota’s lack of investment in this massive three-row has further lead to it falling out of favor in the auto market.

The Sequoia has room for up to eight adults with enough head and legroom. There is enough cargo space as well behind the third row

This gigantic SUV comes in five trim of TDR Pro, mainstream SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, and Platinum trim levels. Under the hood comes a 5.7-liter V-8 rated at a healthy 381 horsepower, but its 6-speed automatic transmission is down on gears compared to rivals.

This explains its dismal fuel economy. With a towing rating as high as 7,400 pounds, the Sequoia won’t out-lug some beefier rivals, though it’s a stable hauler.

The upgraded 2020 TRD Pro has brought some flair to the automobile with a formidable four-wheeler, at least for the handful of buyers who want impressive off-road capability in a big Toyota.

Most shoppers are best served with the entry-level Sequoia SR5. At upward of $50,000, it is not inexpensive, though newly standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility at least bring it up to par.

The Sequoia comes standard with a good array of collision-avoidance features as well as convenient adaptive cruise control, which are features its Chevy and GMC rivals offer for a hefty premium.

The Toyota Sequoia comes with massive room to accommodate up to eight family members with enough cargo space behind the third-row seat. The Sequoia full-size SUV offers upward of 40 inches of legroom for front-seat and second-row passengers.

The third row is tighter but still tolerable for adults, and climbing aboard isn’t too tough with the running boards standard on most trims.

A bench seat is standard on the second row with captain’s chairs optional. Behind the third row, the Sequoia offers about 19 cubic feet of cargo space. With the third row flopped down, the cargo space is fairly flat and there’s room for nearly 67 cubes of goods.

With the second row tumbled, that space nearly doubles to a hefty 120 cubic feet.

Aside from the enormous roomy interior, Sequoia boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system though looking so miniaturized compare to the size of the dashboard in which it is placed and also comparing it to the oversize knobs control.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection are available, Amazon Alexa compatibility, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 3-month/2GB trial plan to Wi-Fi Connect service.

Additionally, it has dynamic navigation with a 3-year free trial to service, Safety Connect and Remote Connect services with a 1-year free trial, and more.

The TRD Pro also includes a 14-speaker JBL Synthesis premium sound system with Clari-Fi digital music restoration technology. Which is Sequoia’s trademark. We can clearly say that the Sequoia interior has a nimble appearance and offers comfort to it, occupant, with it leather-wrapped seats and steering wheel.

It is worthy of note that Sequoia comes standard with its (safety sense) in all its trims and the safety features include; automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. The upgraded TRD Pro trim adds a honeycomb grille with “Toyota” stamped across the middle, cast-aluminum running boards, blacked-out exterior bits that look chunky, plus all-terrain tires that deliver the good off-road.

It also features 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and fog lights, body-color heated side mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, and a power moonroof, plus standard roof rails and running boards with a tube-style roof rack.

Its traditional V8 engine produces a remarkable melodious sound through its performance exhaust pipe once it is fired up. Powering all trims of the 2020 Toyota Sequoia is a 5.7-liter V-8 rated at 381 hp and 401 pound-feet of torque that either sends power to the rear wheels or all four with the optional full-time transfer case.

The 6-speed automatic transmission delivers syrupy shifts, but its limited cogs help explain the dismal fuel economy compared to rivals with 8 and 10-speed gearboxes. Sequoia produces up to 7,100 pounds of towing capacity.

This powerful V8 drawback is its unquenchable taste for gas which is a source of complaint to its owners as frequent visit to the gas station becomes a norm compare to its rivals.

The base Sequoia SR5 with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a power moonroof, LED headlights, a roof rack, running boards, 18-inch wheels, cloth seats, and adaptive cruise control costs about $51,200 and an additional $3,200 get you a four-wheel drive.

The $9,000 upcharge for the Limited trim is a heck of a lot for leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and not much else.

The new TRD Pro with standard four-wheel drive goes for $65,355

With a four-wheel-drive loaded up with a Blu-ray player, heated and cooled front seats, a heated second row, keyless ignition, and JBL speakers, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia Platinium costs nearly $70,000 which is too expensive as the features don’t add up to such hefty price.
