2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Features you need to know

2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 – Spanning five generations makes the previous Corvette a long-standing rival in its class but with overweight, underachieving in terms of suspension composure and with non-cutting-edge technically compared with its Euro rivals. To make matters worst the previous Corvette was available in wrong-hand drive hampering the desire of most enthusiasts across the globe.

All this was about to change with the arrival of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette (six-generation) which came in with fast, powerful, breathtakingly beautiful and with good value. It is more competition-influenced than any previous Corvette as the goal was raw performance, improved ride comfort, a precisely built and technically sophisticated interior and a contemporary new body.

GM realizes that to keep its legend alive it has to enable it to rival the very best the Europeans can offer. Hence this Corvette was made lighter, smaller and significantly faster than the model it replaces, not to mention better made, more economical and more sophisticated beneath the skin.

The dynamics of the C6 become instantly apparent as some are welcome and others not. The ride is well-damped at low speed, quite refined and surprisingly well-controlled when you up the pace. Below we take a look at the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Features.

2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 – Gone are the days of the heavy-duty vehicles which affected the performance of such cars as the current ‘Vette was designed to be smaller, lighter, more agile and just plain faster across the ground. The new Corvette is 5 inches (127 mm) shorter and about 1 inch (25 mm) narrower than its predecessor. This was eminent in the wheelbase increased by 30mm despite the overall length and width shrinking by 125mm and 25mm respectively. With a 100kg reduction in weight, the C6 is lighter than before at just 1517kg, even with its 18 and 19in wheels at the front and rear respectively.

The Corvette C6 comes with vents and a Gurney flap on the rear deck with the Grand Sport adding a more elaborate vent treatment behind the rear wheels. These features clearly distinguish the C6 from the Z06. Topped by dramatic fender forms, Exposed headlamps (not seen on Corvettes since 1962) combine with the grille to create a stronger “face” on the car. The fixed Xenon High-Intensity Discharge lamps provide superior lighting performance.

2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 – Other features of the C6 include bespoke wheels and badging, and black bumper and sill extensions. A clear cover in the carbon fiber bonnet allows an unobstructed view of the engine. This array of features announces the car’s performance as an iconic muscle car. The circular rear lights, long bonnet and low, sleek roofline are traceable back to the Vette origin of C1 and C3 respectively. Keeping the lines and surfaces smooth on the car was made possible by technology. For example, the Keyless Access system replaces traditional mechanical door and hatch handles with solenoids and electronic actuators.

The Luxurious And Spacious Cabin Of The C6
The C6 is the sixth generation and comes with an entirely renewed interior. Maintaining the dual-cockpit design isn’t out of place as Chevrolet has been known to maintain some of its heritage features in recent times. You get full leather as standard and the quality of finish is fantastic. One can only complain of the sat-nav and the trip computer are antique. The Coupé models have a fabric and plastic cover arrangement.

One of the C6 setbacks is the boot area being open to the cabin, which means luggage can slide forward under heavy braking. Considerably it boasts of one of the largest boot in it class measuring 634 liters. The Convertible models have a proper electric hood, although unclipping or re-clipping the roof on the header rail has to be done manually. For the first time, Corvette offers onboard navigation as an option. Using a 6.5-inch (165 mm) color touch-screen display.

2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 – An AM/FM radio with a CD player and MP3 capability is standard. New technology enhances conventional radio reception. An improved optional Bose audio system with an in-dash six-disc changer and XM Satellite Radio comes standard.
