Apple iphone xr: good for the money

The iPhone XR was released on September 12, 2018, and it was offered alongside more expensive iPhones until Apple discontinued it in 2021. The iPhone XR is no longer available, and the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone 11 models have taken its place.

The iPhone XR has a precision-machined 7000 Series aerospace-grade aluminum frame that wraps around an all-glass enclosure that uses the same tough glass as the iPhone XS. The iPhone XR comes in six different colors: white, black, blue, coral, yellow, and (PRODUCT)RED.

Qi-based wireless charging is supported by the glass body, and the device has an IP67 water resistant rating to keep it safe from spills and splashes. The iPhone XR has a larger display than the previous-generation iPhone 8 Plus, but it is housed in a smaller body that sits between the 5.8-inch iPhone XS and the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max.

For the iPhone XR, Apple created a new “Liquid Retina” display, which is a 6.1-inch LCD with a resolution of 1792 x 828 that extends from edge to edge and top to bottom with low bezels. The iPhone XR, like the iPhone XS, has no Home button and uses the swipe-based navigation mechanism first introduced in the iPhone X.

With support for 120Hz touch sensitivity, Tap to Wake, and broad color, Apple calls the Liquid Retina display the most sophisticated LCD ever in a smartphone. It boasts True Tone support, which adjusts the display’s white balance to match the ambient illumination in the room, and Apple claims it has excellent color accuracy.

Although the LCD does not enable 3D Touch, Apple has developed a new Haptic Touch function that uses haptic feedback to respond to certain gestures on the iPhone.

Instead of Touch ID, the iPhone XR uses the same TrueDepth camera technology as the iPhone XS, but with Face ID facial recognition for faster, more efficient unlocking, Apple Pay payments, and more.

The iPhone XR features a 7-nanometer A12 Bionic CPU with two performance cores that are 15% faster than the A11 and four efficiency cores that are up to 50% more efficient. The A12’s four-core GPU is up to 50% quicker than the A11’s.

An 8-core Neural Engine can perform up to 5 trillion operations per second, resulting in significant enhancements to all AR and machine learning apps and services. The iPhone XR does not have a dual-lens camera system like the iPhone XS or iPhone 11, but Apple has made software advancements to make it nearly as functional as the dual-lens camera in the more expensive iPhone XS models.

It has the same f/1.8 12-megapixel wide-angle lens as the iPhone XS, but with a 32 percent bigger sensor for crisper, more detailed photographs in low light. Optical picture stabilization is included, as well as an enhanced True Tone Flash and twice as many focus pixels.

Apple added Portrait Mode to the iPhone XR via software, which was previously only available on dual-lens cameras. Portrait Mode enables users to capture DSLR-quality photographs with an artistic background blur that focuses the image on the subject. Depth Control and advanced bokeh for improved blur have also been added, allowing the depth of field of a photo to be altered after it has been captured.

Even in low-light circumstances, smart HDR pulls out greater detail in highlights and shadows, and wide color support results in rich, vivid photos.

The 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera on the front enables all of the capabilities found on the more costly iPhone XS, including Portrait Mode, Portrait Lighting, Depth Control, and more, for the “greatest selfies you’ve ever taken,” according to Apple.

The iPhone XR boasted the longest battery life of any Apple iPhone at the time of its release, but that is no longer the case, thanks to considerable battery life improvements in Apple’s 2019 iPhone lineup. The iPhone XR’s battery, on the other hand, lasts an hour and a half longer than the iPhone 8 Plus’s, providing 25 hours of call time or 15 hours of internet use.

Dual-SIM compatibility with one nano-SIM and one eSIM, Apple Pay, LTE Advanced with 2×2 MIMO, support for 25+ LTE bands, and Bluetooth 5.0 are among the iPhone XR’s other features.

The iPhone XR is available in 64 and 128 GB storage capacities, with pricing starting at $499 in the United States as of the release of the iPhone 12 range.

Apple retail outlets, the Apple online store, and third-party sellers all have the iPhone XR available for purchase. The iPhone XR is priced starting at $499 for the 64GB variant and $549 for the 128GB model. Apple also sells reconditioned iPhone XR units from time to time, with prices starting at $419.

AppleCare+ costs $149 for two years of coverage or $7.99 per month for continuous coverage for the iPhone XR. The iPhone XR’s warranty is extended with AppleCare+, which covers two incidences of accidental damage every 12 months for a $29 – $99 deductible. $219 or $11.49 per month for Enhanced AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage (up to two incidents every 12 months with a $149 deductible per theft or loss incident).

Design

The iPhone XR resembles the 5.8-inch iPhone XS in appearance, but it has a larger 6.1-inch display, making it a mid-sized phone that sits between the iPhone XS and the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max. It’s a little smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus it replaces, but it has a bigger screen.

The iPhone XR, like the iPhone XS, has an edge-to-edge display with tiny bezels and no Home button, opting instead for a notch and Face ID using the TrueDepth camera system. Because of the constraints of the LCD, the iPhone XR has significantly bigger bezels than the iPhone XS due to the lack of an OLED display.

The TrueDepth camera system, speaker, and ambient light sensor are all housed in a notch on the front of the iPhone XR, while the rest of the phone is all display.

The iPhone XR has a glass body in one of six colors and a 7000 Series aluminum frame that is lighter and less expensive than the iPhone XS’s stainless steel frame. The iPhone XR, like all Apple’s glass-backed iPhones, is prone to breaking when dropped.
