Devel Sixteen 5,007- horsepower Supercar

Devel Sixteen prototype hypercar was an idea conceived by Devel Motors in cooperation in the United Arab Emirates. The car maker’s claims of what the car will look like and its performance wowed the motor world. According to Devel Motors, Sixteen will feature three trim models: A base model with a V8 engine, that will produce roughly 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower.

Devel Sixteen was said to be able to churn out an eye-popping 5000 hp from a quad-turbo V16 engine with a top speed that would exceed 300 mph (480 km/h). The brand has taken some time to put its ax in order before making a show up at the Dubai Motor Show. The car is almost production-ready and features a long wheelbase and low profile. From the rear, the Sixteen looks no less than a fighter jet with massive twin exhausts. According to YouTuber Shmee150, who was at the Dubai Motor Show, the Devel Sixteen will have three versions with different levels of power.

Putting up a massive performance like the one the devel sixteen has been touted to come with is such that the entire team put their house in order and come out strong because as the saying goes, “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” It has been reported that the 12.3-liter V-16 engine showcased in the recent past is one of the setbacks that the Devel Sixteen is currently facing as the engine lacks a formidable cooling system to handle its road use.

Understandably, the 12.3-liter V-16 engine originally was meant for drag racing now that it’s to be deployed to regular driving scenarios is a heck of a problem to Devel’s team of engineers. The team’s nightmare keeps expanding as the day goes by. A $1 million question the team can not answer is how do we keep this fly horse grounded at speeds above 300 mph.

Could all this be tied to Manufattura Automobili Torino’s (MAT) exit from the Devel project? Why did MAT have to leave? Too many questions to be answered but where do we start from. MAT left the project to concentrate on the company’s modern production of Ferrari-based Lancia Stratos models that took off with 25 units of this supercar that will sit on the bones of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia to be built by MAT. The reborn Italian sports car is estimated to cost as much as $617,000 per car.

Is the Devel Sixteen Project Scrapped?

The Devel Sixteen project weathered the storm and made the needed breakthrough scaling the huddles that were brought before the project. Devel’s Instagram page shows the Sixteen aerodynamic testing at Pininfarina’s wind tunnel another post on the same social media channel shows the hypercar’s bare chassis. These are signs the V16 beast is not necessarily vaporware, although it’s best to remain cautious.

Updates from the video footage released about the car production don’t reflect the neck-twisting performance promised by Devel, but supposedly, the development is almost done as the company says it takes eight months to deliver a customer car. It’s currently taking orders, and unless the prices have changed, the V8 costs $1.6 million, followed by the V16 at $1.8 million and the track car at more than $2 million.

The Dubai-based automaker has claimed the track-only version will deliver that absurd horsepower, while the road car will be dialed down to “only” 3,000 hp. A base Sixteen will make do with a V8 engine producing a still-healthy 1,500 hp. Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry LLC, unveiled the production version in 2017, promising a mountain-moving torque of 3,757 pound-feet (5,094 Newton-meters) for the track model and a top speed of 320 mph (515 km/h).

There has been a serious rework of the LS V8 powertrain by Steve Morris Engines with Apollo IE and SCG 003 engineer Paolo Garella leading the development work. He made it known that the V8 and V16 road cars will feature a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The bonkers 5,007-hp variant will get a special gearbox used by dragsters.
