The 2013 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Features You Need To Know

It is a common thing to find most performance cars of this era even sedans draw attention to themselves with look-at-me spoilers, gaping hood scoops, and shouty exhaust notes. This has not been the case with the 2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8, as the car is not only easily overlooked as a run-of-the-mill 300 but also packs performance that would embarrass quite a few modern sports cars. The Chrysler 300C SRT8 is hugely talented, engaging, and has bags of charm. Strong quality, plenty of kits, and acres of space add to its all-around appeal as Chrysler is a company that’s proud of its heritage.

Some notable changes come with the 2013 Chrysler 300C SRT8. These include adaptive suspension updates, launch control, and the addition of the new “entry-priced” 300 SRT8 Core. The 300 remains the same beastly sedan we know and love, with a 6.4-liter V-8 under the hood making 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. While the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT gets an eight-speed automatic paired to its Hemi, the 300 retains its old five-speed slushbox for at least another year.

The Exterior Design

The standard 300C is striking enough, but the SRT8 sits lower on seven-spoke 20-inch alloys, has subtle spoilers at the front and back, slim side skirts, a blacked-out grille, and menacing LED daytime running lights to make it look stockier. It’s a real head-turner.

The Interior Design
The interior of this magnificent ride features a combination of red leather seats, carbon fiber inserts across the dash and center console, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel to up the excitement further. The car also comes with a massive 8.4-inch touchscreen display that features an excellent Garmin sat-nav system and iPod integration, which plays through a cracking 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo.

Engine Performance
Under the hood comes a 6.4-liter V-8 engine, making 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. While the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT gets an eight-speed automatic paired to its Hemi, the 300 is stuck with the old five-speed slushbox for at least another year.

The 300 SRT8 accelerated from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and finished the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds at 112.0 mph, having a top speed of 175 mph. The 300 SRT8 brakings and handling performance are top-notch. The big sedan made its best stop from 60 mph in 105 feet and completed the figure eight in 25.4 seconds at 0.78 g (avg). The 300 SRT8 might have a faster figure-eight time in it, but the relatively skinny 245-width tires and five-speed automatic hold it back.

The suspension
The 2013 Chrysler 300C SRT8 features an updated three-mode suspension. These modes are Auto, Sport, and Track. The default mode is Auto which automatically adjusts the suspension based on the quality of road you’re currently on. The sport mode has its configuration, which is to stiffen up the suspension, adds a bit of heft to the steering, and makes the big car bounce around a bit more on imperfect roads. The Track mode is the most aggressive setting of the three.

The Chrysler 300 SRT8 comes with a price tag befitting a high-performance car of its class. With $47,815 including destination and a $1000 gas guzzler tax, you are sure of getting a killer-sounding 19-speaker Harmon/Kardon audio system, the Safety Tec pack, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and Black Chrome group (which includes the black chrome wheels) for a total of $59,245.

Ultimately the best parallel for the wonderful 2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8 is that it’s a lot like the Air Force’s nuclear-tipped stealth Advanced Cruise Missile. Both the missile and the Chrysler are fast, fly under the radar, and pack quite a wallop. The 300 SRT8 is a true Q-ship, and once it gets a modern transmission, it’ll likely be considered one of the ultimate sleepers.
