Lionel Messi Shields Wife Against Ill Treatment

Lionel Messi’s Emphatic Response To Director Asking His Wife Antonela To Step Aside At Ballon d’Or Ceremony

Before winning his seventh Ballon d’Or on Monday night, Lionel Messi flatly refused a request from a filmmaker involving his wife.

Former teammate and close friend Luis Suarez presented Messi with the award, which he won over Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho, and Karim Benzema.

The typical red carpet walk took place before the ceremony began, and the stars had their photos taken by the world’s media.

Messi was accompanied by his wife Antonella and three boys, Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro, who were all dressed in the same outfit as their brilliant father.

A France Football director can be seen urging Antonela to step away in footage shared online.

He was pointing and gesticulating as if he wanted a picture of Messi and his three children dressed in matching outfits.

Antonela did as she was told and was about to walk away, but Messi was not pleased at all. He told his wife to return, and more images of the entire family were shot.

Messi and his other half first met when they were nine years old, when Antonela’s cousin Lucas Scaglia, with whom he played at Newell’s Old Boys, introduced them.

Antonela has been with Messi for all of his Ballon d’Or victories, and he has always expressed gratitude in his acceptance speeches.

Messi felt compelled to praise Lewandowski, who ended 33 points behind him in the rankings, last night in Paris.

Lewandowski was the frontrunner for the award last year before it was canceled because to COVID-19, and Messi pleaded with France Football to grant him the trophy in 2020.

On stage, Messi stated, “I’d want to mention Robert; it’s been a true honor to compete with him.”

“I believe France Football should award you the Ballon d’Or in 2020; you have earned it.”
