After years of working as a professional mechanic, Kilmer published a book titled “Everyone’s Guide to Buying a Used Car” in 1994.

For the love of cars, Kilmer began a TV segment on the local CBS affiliate in Houston titled “Crank it Up with Scotty” a program he showcase to his audience how to diagnose and fix mechanical problems and offered opinions on vehicle engineering facts, along with genuine solutions to low-profile automotive issues. This led to his award of the best interactive program by Emmy in 2004.

Scotty Kilmer – To further expand his scope of work as well as to reach a wider audience, Kilmer came up with a YouTube channel in August 2007 whose content is similar to that of his television program. As of February 2020, Kilmer had over three million subscribers and 922 million views because his TV program was canceled giving him enough time to work on his YouTube Channel delivering the same content. Kilmer believes that as a mechanic, his 1994 Toyota Celica is the best car to drive because as a mechanic he has to work on his car after working on other people’s cars. Besides the Celica is a Toyota corolla in disguise according to Kilmer. Having the same engine and the same transmission and seeing corolla with millions of miles to him signifies that the car will last long. Secondly, the car is cheap as he claims he bought it at three hundred and fifty dollars even with 239,000 miles the car is still good to go. The Ac is still in perfect condition with its original compressor that came with the car. Don’t forget this car is over 24 years old

The original engine, transmission, and power steering pump are still functional. In Kilmer’s words “this thing was made to last hence his love for the car. The Celica came with a steel wheel which is Kilmer’s favorite. The most important reason for his unraveling love for the car is because it uses corolla parts which are easily found and also cheap to get.

In 2002, Toyota aimed to create a crossover vehicle that had station wagon utility but the styling to appeal to a younger audience. Motor Trend says the Matrix “isn’t an SUV, a wagon, or a minivan. It’s all three: a role player that plays pickle between the highly configurable Chrysler PT Cruiser and the high-output Subaru Impreza WRX. The Matrix is, therefore, in many ways, the automotive equivalent of a Swiss Army knife.” this is undoubtedly why a guru of Kilmer caliber will opt for such a car.

Notably, the Toyota Matrix also shares some of its styling and mechanics with the Toyota Corolla. Earlier on we mention what made Kilmer love his Celica so much and this is being repeated here with the Toyota Matrix. The car comes with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing and 126 horsepower “has to rev high to make the most of its power.

its fuel economy is regarded as a plus as the Environmental Protection Agency gives a rating of 26 miles per gallon in the city, 33 on highways with the standard manual. The automatic transmission changes the EPA’s rating to 25 miles per gallon in the city, 31 miles per gallon on the highway. We can draw our conclusion from here that Kilmer is not after luxury cars like other big boys out there with big bucks also he is not after an earth-shattering performance from his car. All he needs is a car that is meant to last with available parts and does not break his account to maintain it. That is why he is very comfortable with these two cars in his garage.
