2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz And The Competition

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz truck, come in to bridge the gap between Hyundai and other brands that have lots of great performance trucks to their name. It also fills in the gap between larger and more expensive midsize trucks. It combines the comfort of an SUV with most of the utility of a pickup. Plus, it has cool features like an in-bed trunk, which only Hyundai and Honda offer. The Cruz in its unique nature may not boast of high towing and hauling abilities as compared to its rivals but is more utility-oriented than a regular SUV. No wonder why Hyundai calls it an SAV instead of a truck.

It will not be out of place to say that the layout of the Cruz interior is intuitive, with high-quality materials and lots of soft touchpoints for your elbows and knees to rest on.
The Santa Cruz cabin is an exciting place to be as the truck is designed with a 10.25-inch driver display screen and an optional 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The optional 10.25-inch screen comes with a sensitive area that replaces the traditional shortcut buttons thereby sending those redundant buttons to the steering wheel. The Base trim levels come with a smaller 8-inch screen with more traditional physical shortcut buttons. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come standard on the Cruz. However, the wireless smartphone connectivity is only available on the upgraded base 8-inch screen.

To enjoy all that the Cruz comes with, reach out to the upper-most Limited trim level. An upgraded 10.25-inch center touchscreen, a navigation-based cruise control system that adjusts for curves in the road and posted speed limits, and also a high-resolution 360-degree parking camera keeps the flag flying for the Cruz.

The truck comes with a standard composite bed cover, a rear bumper with several built-in steps, and several in-bed cargo tie-down locations making the Santa Cruz very competitive when it comes to utilitarian needs. Other items such as a roll-up tonneau cover, a roof basket, and a 115-volt in-bed power outlet are also offered, giving the Santa Cruz a very adventure-friendly look and feel.

The Engine and its Consumption Rate
The Santa Cruz comes with a base 2.5-liter engine, paired with either front- or all-wheel drive. It shares a platform with the Tucson SUV and Tucson offers two different hybrid powertrains. The first is a 1.6-liter engine paired with a hybrid system for an EPA estimate as high as 38 mpg combined. The second is an upcoming plug-in powertrain that offers up to 28 miles of EV range. The mother company Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed the production of future Santa Cruz hybrids, however, we expect to see these two powertrains under the hood of Santa Cruz very soon. The Cruz is rated at 23 mpg combined by the EPA. Upgrade to the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine (all-wheel drive only) and fuel economy ratings drop slightly to 22 mpg combined. The Santa Cruz max towing is between 3,500 and 5,000 pounds, which is pretty strong and suitable.

2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Safety Features
The setback here is that some of the driver aids are accompanied by loud beeps and chimes, which can be a bit annoying. The Cruz comes with a Blind Spot Collision Assist which keeps the driver alert about vehicles in his blind spots and can automatically steer the Santa Cruz back into its lane if the driver tries to change lanes.

The car also comes with a Safe Exit Warning that prevents a rear passenger from opening a door into traffic approaching from behind. Lane Keeping Assist is another very important safety feature of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. It steers the Santa Cruz back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker. Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and a driver attention warning system, are all standard and not forgetting the rear cross-traffic alert.

These two pickup trucks are similar in many ways. With all those similarities, there are some remarkable differences such as pricing, as the Maverick has a lower starting price than the Santa Cruz and a standard hybrid powertrain that gets impressive fuel economy as well. For its part, the Santa Cruz is more comfortable to drive and has a classier interior design.

Hyundai Santa Cruz vs. Honda Ridgeline
The midsize Honda Ridgeline has been known for its car-like unibody design with more space and capability. The Honda Ridgeline boasts a roomier cab and a bigger cargo bed. And just like the Santa Cruz, the Ridgeline also has an underfloor cargo bed storage bin that you can use to store dirty gear or ice. But for the base price of the Ridgeline, you can get a nicely equipped Santa Cruz.

Hyundai Santa Cruz vs. Hyundai Tucson
These two Hyundais, are mechanically related and have similar dashboard designs. The major and visible difference between these two is that the Hyundai Santa Cruz is a truck while the Tucson is an SUV. Another difference between them is in regards to their optional engines.
