Facebook Dating For Singles: How To Make The Most Out of Your Dating Experience

Facebook has been a part of our lives for many years now. It’s been a major player in the way we communicate with friends and family, as well as how we interact with businesses and brands. Now, Facebook is taking on a new role: a dating platform.

Facebook Dating is a new dating experience that will make it easier to find romantic partners. But, getting started can be intimidating for many singles. So I’m going to share some tips and tricks to make your Facebook Dating experience as painless as possible.

Getting Started on Facebook Dating

Facebook Dating is a bit different than other dating apps, like Tinder or Bumble. It’s not just for looking for one-time hookups. It’s intended to be used as a more serious dating app, like Match or OkCupid.

Before you start swiping around Facebook, there are some settings you’ll want to change.

  • First, make sure your profile isn’t public. The last thing you want is someone finding your profile and taking screenshots of all your private photos before you even get the chance to meet them.
  • Next, go to “Settings” on the top right corner of your screen and click on “Privacy“. From here select “Who can see my future posts?” and choose “Only Friends“. This way, only people that you already know can see what you post until it becomes public.

If you’re really wanting to lock down your account, I suggest installing an extra layer of protection with third party software like Disconnect Pro which does a great job at blocking spam bots from accessing your Facebook account and also protects against malware attacks pages that could steal your identity or personal information.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, it’s time to set up your search preferences!

The Best Way To Reach Out

When you first log into Facebook Dating, you’ll see the potential matches that Facebook has generated for you. If you like someone, simply tap on their picture and they will be saved as a future connection.

Of course, if you want to start talking with someone right away, there are plenty of ways to do so! You can send them a message or give them a call (from within the app) to talk. You can also comment on one of their posts or use Facebook’s personal assistant M to reach out to you.

You can find out more about your potential connections by browsing through their profile, but it can be time-consuming if you have hundreds of matches. So why not turn your conversation into a game?

Start up an ice breaker game with one of your matches and use it as an excuse to chat! The game serves as a way for you to get to know each other without having to go through the trouble of figuring out what to say first.

Finding Your Match

To find your match, go to the Facebook Dating app and select “Date Someone New.” You’ll be able to see profiles of people who are interested in dating. Tap on profiles you like, and you’ll be able to see who liked your profile (and vice versa).

If there’s someone you’re not interested in, swipe left. If you like someone, swipe right. If you don’t know what to do next, tap “Next.” The first person who likes your profile will show up at the top of your feed.

Tap on the person’s profile and then tap “Message” or “Add as Friend” to start a conversation.

Turn Down Requests With Ease

When you create your Facebook Dating profile, you’ll be bombarded with requests. It’s likely that some of these requests are not from the people you’re looking for. Instead, they’re from people who don’t match your preferences or who are not in your desired age range.

Don’t worry! You can turn down these requests without worrying about hurting someone’s feelings. When you receive a request, simply tap on the “Turn Down” button under the person’s profile picture to decline their offer to date you. This way, there’s no need to go through the awkward conversation of declining their offer in person or over text message by saying, “I’m sorry but I’m not interested.”

Check Out Your Matches

Facebook Dating is pretty straightforward. It’s really simple to see who likes you, all you have to do is open the app and go through your list of matches. You can also browse through potential matches by scrolling through profiles similar to your interests, age, location, etc.

One of the best ways to get a feel for your Facebook Dating experience is by looking at the people who like you. This way, you’ll know what their interests are before deciding whether or not they might be a good match for you!

Viewing Your Matches

When you first sign up for Facebook Dating, a new page will be created in your News Feed called “Dating.” You’ll see potential matches from friends and from other areas. You’ll also see the people who have liked you.

In order to view your matches, click on “Dating” in your News Feed. This will show the people who have liked you and who you’ve liked back. All of your mutual matches will be listed at the top of this page.

If you’d rather focus on matching with friends only, click “Friends” instead to view only your friend’s potential matches.

Viewing Their Matches

A match is created when two people like each other’s profile. It’s important to note that you can only see the profiles of people who have liked your profile.

Matches are shown in a list on the Dating Home page. You can view matches by clicking on “Recently Met” or “People You May Want To Meet.” The list updates as soon as someone likes your profile.

If you don’t want to be matched with someone, click “hide this person” under their name to remove them from your match list.

Take It Slow and Casual

The first thing to remember when getting started on Facebook Dating is that it’s not a race. It can take time to find someone on the platform and you should not feel bad if you aren’t immediately successful.

Remember: Facebook Dating is not a one-night stand. You want to go slow and get to know them first, and then only do the things that make you two comfortable.

View Your Profile Visibility Settings

You can control who can see your profile with a few simple clicks. To change your profile visibility settings, click the ‘More Settings’ button at the top right of your Facebook page. You’ll see a list of options – click on ‘Privacy’. Depending on what you select, some people may or may not be able to see your profile.

Turn Off Who You’ve Met

The first thing you want to do is turn off the “Who You’ve Met” feature. This will display a stream of people you have already met on Facebook. This may seem like a good idea, but since many people have hundreds of friends, it can be difficult to remember who you have met and who you haven’t.

This feature can also pose a privacy risk for those that are single and date online often. For example, if your friend sees that you’re looking at someone’s profile, they may think that there’s something going on between the two of you. They may even message the person about their intentions.
