Poor Officiating Help Man City Beat Arsenal

Arsenal Did deserve a penalty for Ederson’s challenge on Martin Odegaard: Rio Ferdinand

After two difficult penalty rulings went against Arsenal in their 2-1 loss to Manchester City, Rio Ferdinand said that VAR had left him “perplexed.”

During the first half, they were denied a penalty kick when Martin Odegaard went over in the box after being tackled by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Jarred Gillett, a VAR officer, examined several replays before agreeing with on-field referee Stuart Attwell that Ederson had a toe on the ball before colliding with Odegaard. On that occasion, Attwell did not consult the pitchside screen.

When Bernardo Silva was hauled down by Granit Xhaka’s shirt tug in the second half, Attwell overturned his initial ‘no penalty’ judgement after consulting the VAR monitor.
After Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off, Rodri won it for City late into stoppage time, putting City 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand said in the BT Sport studio that he wasn’t persuaded City should have been awarded a penalty, but that the bigger issue was VAR’s inconsistent application.

Arsenal fans Alleged that referee Stuart Attwell Kicked Gabriel Martinelli on the Head against Manchester City

Despite not striking the back of the net in an action-packed match, Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli managed to get back into the thick of things.
The Brazilian was on the receiving end of a clattering challenge from Rodri, leaving him in pain on the north London field, as the Gunners still maintained a slender lead.

However, some onlookers at home noticed that referee Stuart Attwell appeared to kick Martinelli in the head as he writhed in pain.

“The referee kicked Martinelli in the head lmao,” said @BamBamMickey.
Gabriel Martinelli, an Arsenal striker who has been on fire in recent weeks, was on the receiving end of a bad break on Saturday.

Cesc Fabregas slams “terrible decision” during Man City’s dramatic win over Arsenal

Manchester City’s Cesc Fabregas was enraged after a contentious penalty was awarded during their 2-1 win over Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

After Bukayo Saka’s first-half score put Mikel Arteta’s side in command at the break, the Gunners appeared to be on their way to a stunning victory over the Premier League championship leaders.

When Granit Xhaka was deemed to have fouled Bernardo Silva in the box, City equalized through Riyad Mahrez early in the second half, before Arsenal had Gabriel sent out for his second yellow card two minutes later.

At the Emirates, City were fortunate to escape with three points after a sensational second half.

Rodri then scored from close range in second-half stoppage time to give City a win that increases their advantage over Chelsea to 11 points, with Chelsea hosting third-placed Liverpool on Sunday. Arsenal are fourth on 35 points.
However, Fabregas, a former Arsenal captain, criticized the decision to award City the second-half penalty, claiming that referee Stuart Attwell originally ignored City’s protests before altering his mind after a VAR review.
He went on to say that Bernardo Silva was already on his way down, and that he was “already collapsing.”
When Gabriel was given his marching orders, Fabregas was taken aback, admitting: “In the space of 5′, football can change drastically. Incredible.”
