Reasons Why BMW 328 Hommage Roadster Should Make A Comeback

BMW 328 Hommage – The 328 Hommage Roadster was released in 2011, on the car’s 75th anniversary. It is based on the same principles as the original 328 Roadster but is built and crafted with a “contemporary approach”. The car is coherent, lightweight, and features a stunning aerodynamic design. The round headlamps and the kidney grills are similar to the original 328 Roadster. The car comes with an open top and has no doors giving it a conventional old-school touch. The wheel design is classic 1930s and innovative features have been instituted in the car.

Carbon-fiber re-infused plastic was employed to reduce weight from the car. In addition, the car has not been coated with any exterior paint saving some additional weight. Interestingly, the 328 Hommage Roadster is based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics. The interiors are elegant and feature two i-phones that are used to display functions. The engine is a 3.0-liter straight-six (BMW did not reveal any more details).

All these features make the 328 Hommage a car that should be produced by BMW and not a car that should remain as a concept. After all, why wouldn’t customers pay a premium for it? The technology is high-grade, design is revolutionary (combining styles of past and future) and it is likely to be quick on the roads. The car was launched for 7,400 reichsmarks in 1937. This converts to about $250,000 in modern-day currency. Even at that price tag, without a doubt, BMW would find enough customers for it. The car is truly unique and BMW can prolong its legacy by building the 328 Hommage Roadster.

The Exterior

The 328 Hommage is one of the sleek and minimalistic productions of BMW weighing just 1720 lbs. The car features carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) on major parts of its exterior and interior. The exterior design language uses the same treatment that was applied for the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept.

It has a wide and flat front end with generous surfaces which gives it a powerful appearance. A carbon fiber bonnet and low-reaching sidewalls will ensure excellent stability for the 328 on the road. As a result, the vehicle appears to be even flatter and more dynamic as a whole.

In addition to its gorgeous looks, the 328 Hommage features a vertically mounted kidney grille dynamically incorporated into the flat silhouette. The kidney grille bars are more prominently curved than the kidney grille surrounding itself. The vehicle displays the extremely round and appealing design of the original BMW 328 kidney grille when viewed from the side. At the rear, the 328 Hommage is defined by large vents and openings and circular tailpipes. The concept sits on two-part light-alloy wheels.

The Interior

The interior of the 328 Hommage gets fine leather, matte and high-gloss black polished aluminum, and numerous details derived from motor racing, offering a hint of the BMW 328’s most successful motorsports career.

A slightly asymmetrically designed windscreen marks the area in which the driver and co-driver sit. High-gloss aluminum safety buckles are combined with leather and different carbon fiber elements. The interior of the 328 Hommage is defined by two large surface areas so-called layers. One of them extends towards the driver, revealing the entire driver’s workplace comprising steering wheel, control elements, and scoop, thereby separating the driver and co-driver areas from each other. The second layer begins next to the scoop, making a sweep towards the co-driver, then floating freely in front of him.

The Engine Performance
BMW hasn’t revealed any details on the concept’s technical specifications. All they have said so far is that the 328 Hommage will use a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. More details will be revealed soon, but since the concept is just a design exercise, it has no chance of seeing production.
