The Rebirth Of Volkswagen T1 Microbus

Volkswagen T1 Microbus – With gasoline engines about to go into extinction in less than a decade from now, all the automobile brands have embraced the EV concept likewise the VW who have decided to bring back its legendary T1 Microbus but this time, powering it with an electric.

The new Microbus measures nearly half-a-foot wider and a foot taller than its predecessor and its wheelbase is nearly nine inches long. The Microbus passenger van front seats move 9.6 inches front to back and the three-person bench seat can be folded flat, split 60/40, or slide 5.9 inches. Sliding doors promise easy minivan access to all seats and the hatch stores 39.6 cubic feet with the rear seats up.

Volkswagen employed some recycled materials such as water bottles for use on the seats, floor, and roof as well as the microbus fabric. VW says its high-voltage lithium-ion batteries will be produced without cobalt, which has controversial mining conditions in developing countries. Let’s take a look at some of its features.

The new Microbus has unique exterior features that combine with an enticing interior to give it an amazing appearance. The Bus has a low but broad front end, a steeply raked windshield, a lower mesh grille, LED headlights, and a light bar that bridges the headlights into a big ol’ VW logo. Volkswagen said. Tall front quarter windows support a flat roof that finishes with an integrated roof spoiler in the rear. There are three garnishes on each D-pillar which VW did not disclose their purpose. An LED taillight bar bridges the back. The Bus has a flat vertical rear end.

The Interior Design
We have been informed that there will be a five-seat passenger van and a cargo van with a partition between the back and the front bench that can seat three people, including the driver. Expectedly, there will be a six-passenger option with three rows of two seats that will follow shortly. Most of these models are targeted at the European markets and will go on sale later this year. For its North American counterpart, there will be slight modifications as it will come with a long wheelbase, and will have a seven-seat configuration with two seats up front, two in the way back, and a mid-row bench that seats three.

The new Microbus built for the European market comes with a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, and an available 12.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, at least two USB-C ports, and all the ambient lighting. A light bar beyond the instrument cluster reflects the status of the driver-assist systems, such as standard automatic emergency braking and active lane control.
