Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Specification and Price

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Unique Features for $1000!

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has arrived, and it’s the “cheapest” foldable phone yet at $999. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 brings foldable phone technology closer to the mainstream, but a grand is still a lot of money. And now, more individuals than ever before have the chance to experience the foldable lifestyle.

Will people be convinced to switch to foldable phones because they are cheaper? The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also more water resistant than its predecessor, with an IPX8 rating. The phone boasts Gorilla Glass Victus on the outside, as well as Samsung’s new Armor Aluminum casing, which increases the screen’s durability by 80%. In short, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is more durable than the original Galaxy Z Flip, but we wouldn’t suggest it over it.

One area where the Galaxy Z Flip 3 fails miserably in our tests is battery life. It isn’t a pretty sight. For the most part, the Flip 3 is a nice foldable phone, but it’s not fantastic. To understand more about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, keep reading.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is now available for pre-order, with an August 27 delivery date. The 8GB/128GB base setup costs $999, but there’s also a $1,049 256GB option. Pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Flip 3 on a three-year contract will get you a $150 Samsung.com credit and a free year of Samsung Care+.

Design and Durability

Samsung put a premium on durability with the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The screen is now 80 percent more robust than the one found on the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G thanks to a new film. The phone’s chassis is composed of Samsung’s Armor Aluminum technology, and the 1.9-inch outer display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. All of this adds to the scratch resistance of the display, especially on the cover.

The Flip 3 also meets IPX8 water resistance standards. You won’t have to worry about dunking it, although neither Samsung nor I recommend it. We were unable to test the phone’s water resistance during our hands-on time with it.

The most visible change to the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s design is the cover display. That’s four times the size of the Galaxy Z Flip’s 1.1-inch outer strip, so you’ll be able to see a lot more information than before.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes in four colors: cream, green, lavender, and phantom black. The lavender shined out in our hands-on, catching the eye and exemplifying the Flip 3’s focus on beauty. The colors Gray, Pink, and White will be available only on Samsung’s website. I’m experimenting with the Cream model, which is rather exquisite in its delicacy. The smooth texture is especially nice, given how slippery the original Galaxy Z Flip was.

Apart from its decreased price, the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s main selling point is how compact and portable it is when folded. When closed, the phone measures only 3.4 x 2.8 x 0.63-0.67 inches, allowing it to fit into almost any pocket.

When opened, the phone measures 6.5 x 2.8 x 0.27 inches, although it fits easily in the hand. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also lightweight, weighing only 6.5 ounces (just like its predecessor).

In general, Samsung reduced the size of the Flip 3 by a smidgeon. The original Flip was 6.6 x 2.9 x 0.28 inches when open, and 3.4 x 2.9 x 0.61-0.68 inches when closed. The new phone is the same weight as the previous one, but it is thinner and taller. When you consider the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s increased durability, it’s a modern engineering marvel.

Displays

When fully opened, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The 2640 x 1080 resolution combined with the 120Hz refresh rate resulted in a truly breathtaking viewing experience. Scrolling on the Flip 3 was silky smooth, displaying Samsung’s true display power.

When closed, the 1.9-inch touchscreen may be used to listen to music, check the weather, and even take pictures. (You can also use the touchscreen as a viewfinder.) To start the camera, simply double-click the power button. This is a huge improvement over the Flip 3’s tiny external display, making it more usable even when closed (and thus saving battery life, theoretically). When compared to the first Flip, I was immediately enamored with the Flip 3’s revamped cover display. It’s really useful and adaptable, allowing you to engage with a range of phone functions without having to open the device. It’s by far my favorite Flip 3 feature, other from the folding.

Cameras

They’re identical to the original Flip in terms of camera. On the rear, there’s a 12MP (f/1.8) wide-angle camera and a 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide camera. A 10MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.4 is used in the selfie camera. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 also lacks a telephoto lens, unlike comparable $999 phones like the iPhone 12 Pro, which I utilized for the following photo comparisons.

Performance

With a Snapdragon 888 chipset and 8GB of RAM, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a monster. It didn’t stutter once when I navigated between apps in Flex mode. In conclusion, the Flip 3 functions similarly to any other Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone.

Intense games like Genhin Impact and Asphalt 9 work flawlessly on the Flip 3. There were no frame drops, as far as I could tell. Games like Dead Cells, which require a higher refresh rate, operate smoothly on this phone. The primary disadvantage is, of course, battery life, which I’ll explain later.

Battery Life and Charging

The battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is 3,300 mAh, which is the same as the original Flip. This is troubling, especially because the Flip’s battery life was not particularly impressive. The 3,300 mAh battery is also smaller than the 4,000 mAh battery found in other Samsung phones, such as the basic Galaxy S21.

In all refresh rate options, we put the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s battery to the test, and neither resulted in a pleasing outcome. In adaptive mode, the Flip 3 barely lasted 5 hours and 43 minutes. In 60Hz mode, it lasted 6 hours, which was substantially longer. I’ve also heard from other reviews who said the battery life was terrible. The Flip 3’s limited battery life significantly reduces the phone’s overall worth.
