There has been a sudden surge of low-cost phone debuts in recent months, with Xiaomi’s Redmi 9 being one among them. This new model is the Redmi 8’s replacement, and it costs less than Rs. 10,000. (Review). The Redmi 9 in India should not be confused with the Redmi 9 Prime, a global edition of the same name that is sold in the United States (Review). In India, the Redmi 9 is essentially a Redmi 9C with a few changes.

On August 27, 2020, the Redmi 9 smartphone was released. The phone’s display is a 6.53-inch touchscreen with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 720×1600 pixels. The Redmi 9 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G35 octa-core processor. It has 4GB of RAM in total. The Redmi 9 runs Android 10 and is backed by a 5000mAh battery. Xiaomi’s unique quick charging technology is compatible with the Redmi 9.
