2022 BMW iX An Absolute Stunner

The 2022 BMW iX is an EV that comfortably seats five people. The seats are comfortable and remain supportive on long drives, and both rows provide enough space that even taller folks can stretch out and relax. Its dual-motor powertrain delivers energetic acceleration and plenty of power, and the iX’s range tops out at 300 miles. Though not as sporty as the typical BMW, the iX handles well, and it provides a polished ride. The cabin is top-notch, an excellent build quality, sumptuous seats, and plenty of room for people and cargo. The laundry list of standard features includes a very user-friendly infotainment system.

The iX’s cabin is arguably the best in the class. It’s modern, quiet, and strikes an eye-catching balance between elegant and futuristic. Taking a cue from the infotainment, the iDrive infotainment system found in the iX is one of the best on the market. It features a user-friendly interface, easily navigable menus, and intuitive controls. You can even use voice commands to control the system. The responsive touch screen has crisp graphics as well, and it’s slightly angled toward the driver for better viewing.

Standard infotainment features a 14.9-inch touch screen, navigation, a 12-speaker hi-fi stereo, satellite radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, wireless device charging, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Available infotainment features: an 18-speaker Harman Kardon stereo and a 30-speaker Bowers and Wilkins surround-sound stereo
Additional standard features: a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a panoramic sunroof, quad-zone automatic climate control, and a power liftgate.

There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

The 2022 BMW iX lacks reasonable cargo capacity compared to other luxury hybrid and electric SUVs in the class. It gives you 35.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 77.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. However, while many electric vehicles have a front trunk or “frunk” where the engine would be in a gas-powered vehicle, this BMW EV lacks any kind of similar accommodation.

The iX features dual electric motors that combine to produce 516 horsepower. A single-speed automatic transmission comes standard. Power delivery is smooth and instantaneous, and the iX accelerates quickly whether you’re taking off from a stoplight or sashaying around slower traffic on the highway.

Being an electric car, charging the iX battery will not be a problem as you can charge it at home using a standard wall outlet or you can install a 240-volt connection for faster charging. There are public charging options in many places as well, including parking garages and gas stations.

To fully charge the iX Battery, it will take about 100 hours using a standard 120-volt household-style power outlet, so you should only use that for topping off your charge. Alternatively, it will take about 10.5 hours using a 240-volt outlet. Using a DC Fast Charging station, you can go from a 10% charge to an 80% charge in about 40 minutes. Starting from the same 10% battery level, you can also add about 90 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

The iX is capable of completing 300 miles on a full battery charge. That’s not quite as far as a Tesla, but it’s farther than a lot of other EVs, such as the Audi e-Tron. BMW is yet to state the iX’s expected battery life span, but it covers the battery with an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Ride and Handling
The 2022 BMW iX smoothly glides over any road surface and pavement imperfections won’t disturb occupants. This BMW also handles well for such a hefty SUV. It has a low center of gravity and doesn’t lean much around turns. You wouldn’t take it to the track, but you can enjoy yourself on winding roads. The regenerative braking system which has four settings, including one-pedal driving is effective and unobtrusive.

BMW iX Cost
The BMW iX xDrive50 starts at $83,200. That’s one of the highest starting prices in the luxury hybrid and electric SUV class. On the bright side, there aren’t any more expensive trims, but the iX’s base price is still higher than many classmates’ top-trim prices.
