Features Of The Volvo C40 Electric

The Volvo C40 is a new fully electric crossover vehicle. It is equipped with impressive technology features. The car aims to bring both tailpipe emissions-free power and coupe-like styling to the compact luxury crossover SUV class.

Volvo C40 Electric – The C40 comes with twin electric motors, one each at the front and rear axle, while the range and other features can be improved over time through over-the-air updates. It also has unlimited mobile data and a leather-free interior.

Volvo has included an impressive array of advanced driver aids with the C40 Recharge. These include adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED fog lights, lane-keeping assist, and parking sensors, among others. The C40 provides a glimpse into the future of Volvo via its battery technology and an online-only buying process that the company says will soon become the norm across its EV lineup.

Just like other auto brands, Volvo has upped its game with the C40 styling. There is a new LED taillight technology from Volvo at the rear end that features segmented LEDs and sequentially activating turn indicators for a different look than the typical fully-lit Volvo taillight. There is also a new “Iron Mark” grille that houses a new suite of radar for the driver assistance systems. The Volvo logo is not left out of the scene as it is now heated to ensure that neither ice nor snow buildup will stop the systems from functioning.

There is a significant number of spoilers for this crossover coupe at the rear. Eric Beak, Volvo’s head of design throw in more light regarding the dual, fin-like rooftop spoilers stating that they are there as aerodynamic aids in a bid to increase range. A critical look at the car reveals a big spoiler jutting out on the car’s trailing edge, this time it is designed to give the car greater stability at high speeds by reducing lift.

The C40 Interior Design
The C40 interior is a nice place to be especially with Volvo’s completely leather-free interior. The C40 is Volvo’s first completely leather-free interior car and this itself is a challenge as its interior designers must make do with recycled materials. The seats are made of recycled polyester. The dashboard inlay in the rough style of a topographical map only adds to the C40’s distinctive style.

Volvo C40 comes with a well-integrated voice-activated car management system. Running the Android Automotive operating system, many Google apps (Maps, Assistant, and Play Store, for example) are all a part of the system. Graphics on the 9-inch touchscreen are crisp, and the four-tile home screen is easy to read and navigate. Google’s voice recognition is excellent and Apple CarPlay comes in handy.

Volvo’s Convenient Entry and Start system is an experience to have. With the key in your pocket, the C40 senses when you sit in the driver’s seat turns itself on and is ready to go without so much as the push of a button. Just select your gear and go. The C40 Recharge also comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13-speaker, 600-watt Harman Kardon audio system.

There’s less cargo capacity under the power-operated hatch than in the more upright XC40 Recharge. There’s suitable space for everyday hauling of groceries and the like, but you’re not going to be able to fit lots of luggage or other large bulky items.

Battery Range and Charging Performance

Volvo C40 Electric – The C40 comes in one battery configuration: a liquid-cooled 78-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion pack that has 75 kWh of usable energy storage capacity. Per EPA testing, this nets you 226 miles of range with a full charge. That’s 3 miles more than the XC40 Recharge, but 23 miles less than the dual-motor Polestar 2. Charging speed maxes out at 150 kW when plugged into a DC fast charger, allowing you to go from 0-80% charge in about 40 minutes.

The two motors combine for a total system output of 402 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque. Despite the C40’s prodigious 4,817-pound curb weight, that power is still enough for a 0-60 mph time of just 4.7 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 112 mph.
