Code Generator is a security feature for your Facebook app used normally with Two-Factor Authentication on Facebook. When you turn it on, your phone will generate a special security code that you can use to authenticate and validate your login attempt on another computer or mobile device.(Whether you are the one attempting or sme other person). And the good news is that Code Generator works on your mobile device even if you don’t have access to text messaging (SMS) or an Internet connection. You can also use it if you ever need to reset your password on Facebook.
Setting up Code Generator
Right now you can only set up Code Generator from a computer. To set up a Code Generator:
- Go to your web browser and login to Facebook using the address www.Facebook.com.
- Click the 🔻 at the top right of the Facebook header.
- On the drop down menu, Click Settings.
- Go to your Security and Login Settings.
- Scroll down to Use two-factor authentication and click Edit.
- Go to Code Generator and click Setup.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Using Code Generator
Note: Code Generator is only available from the Facebook app for Android and iOS.
To get your code on your mobile device:
- From your Facebook app, tap the 3 parallel bars at the top right (3 lines).
- Scroll down and tap Code Generator.
- Use the code to log into Facebook.
Other Useful Resources
- Code Generator security codes used for two-factor authentication are always six digits long and expire after 30 or 60 seconds depending on the mobile device you’re using.
- If your security code isn’t working, tap My code doesn’t work on your mobile device to reset your Code Generator, then try setting it up again on your computer.
