Genesis Essentia Concept; A Global Masterpiece

The best way to evaluate the Essentia concept is by simply sticking to the words of its manufacturer which goes thus; “We understand our obligation as a luxury car manufacturer to create objects of desire, sparking passion and inspiration by emphasizing a culture while exceeding expectations in terms of technology and connectivity, bringing our outside world seamlessly to the inside of the vehicle. This is what the Genesis Essentia Concept is all about, and we are thrilled to introduce our interpretation of an all-electric, two-door Gran Turismo here.”- Manfred Fitzgerald, global head of the Genesis brand.

This head-turning and tongue-wagging marvel was built in 2018 and first displayed at the New York International Auto Show in the same year. There has been speculation regarding the development of a possible production car from this concept affirmed by statements from company officials, though as of May 2020 it is unclear as to if the car is in any stage of production. A brief look at the Essentia Concept car reveals the following;

The Exterior Design

The Essentia sports an ultra-light carbon-fibre chassis. The grille is decked with an evolution of the Genesis logo, while the hood is transparent. The four-beam headlights are similar to what we saw on the GV80 SUV concept, unveiled at last year’s New York auto show. The air outlets visible on the flanks help reduce the coefficient of drag. In the back, pointed design elements incorporate similar lighting to what’s seen in front, to which is added a prominent diffuser designed to manage and reduce turbulence under the vehicle. The Essentia features a low roofline at only 50 inches and butterfly doors.

The Interior Design

The interior design is unsurprisingly highly futuristic and incorporates a host of eye-catching elements. Connectivity is a primary focus of attention, for example with the inclusion of vehicle-to-vehicle communication.

Genesis Essentia Concept – However, this prototype will almost certainly not make it to the production stage in its present form. But it represents the very essence of what a concept car should be; for one thing, it provides a peek at where the brand is headed design-wise and technology-wise. To judge by the Essentia, Genesis is headed in some pretty interesting directions.

Engine and performance
Underneath the Essentia Concept’s carbon-fiber monocoque, according to Genesis, is a high-density battery pack and the car is incorporated with several electric motors that make it capable of 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3 seconds.

The Essentia Concept’s battery pack is housed in an I-shape structure in the center tunnel instead of underneath the passenger’s compartment. The reason for this is very simple, to give room for a super-low, 1270mm roofline and spacious cabin as well as maintain a centralized weight distribution.
