Twitter is a great way to stay connected with friends and family, and even meet new people. But social media can be a huge time suck. After a while, you start to wonder if there is a way to get rid of your Twitter account without permanently removing it from your life. If you think about it, there has to be a way to delete your account, right?
Wrong. Deleting your account is not possible. And knowing that you can’t do it doesn’t make the situation any easier. But we’ll get to that. Let’s first dive into everything you need to know about deleting your Twitter account.
What is a Twitter Account?
A Twitter account is an online profile created by users of the social media site Twitter. Users can choose a username and create a customized profile with photos, description, and contact information.
A user’s Twitter account provides the user’s followers with their tweets- public messages posted on the site.
How to Delete Your Twitter Account
If you feel like you have outgrown Twitter and want to delete your account, it’s important to take the time to personally go through all of your tweets and delete them. This will help close up any loose ends for potential employers who may be looking through your account.
**Deleting Your Account**
The first thing you need to do is log in and go to the “Settings and Privacy” tab, then click on “Security and Privacy”, which will lead you to the “Account Settings” page.
Next, scroll down until you see “Deactivate your account”. Click on this box and enter in your password for confirmation. You can also go back into the account settings page at any time if you change your mind about deleting your account.
Now that we have answered the question of how to delete an account, let’s talk about why it is important to keep social media accounts even after they are deleted.

Is It Possible to Delete Your Twitter Account?
It is not possible to delete your Twitter account. The only way to do it is by permanently deleting the entire thing—something that most people don’t want to do. Of course, there has to be a way to stop using it while still having and storing all of the data that you have so far.
To deactivate your account, you have two options: freezing or deleting tweets.
The Twitterverse Will Cry!
Twitter is a social media site that allows you to post short updates and links. The service is free and open, meaning anyone can sign up for it. Twitter’s popularity soared in 2010 when the company went public and its shares reached $26 on opening day.
But alas, as with any social media site, there’s no way to delete your account permanently. And as much as you might want to erase all traces of your Twitter life after it starts feeling like a chore, you can’t do it.
Some people say that if you stop using your account for an extended period of time then you may get the option to delete it yourself. Regardless of whether or not this is true, we don’t recommend taking the risk because once it’s gone, it won’t be coming back.
The only way to remove your account is by deleting all of your tweets and stopping following everyone who follows you (or vice versa). Doing this will make your account look abandoned and Twitter will eventually suspend it. At the bottom of this article, we discuss how to do that in greater detail.
Can I Really Delete My Twitter Account?
Unfortunately, you cannot delete your Twitter account. But you can deactivate it in order to stop receiving direct messages and push notifications. If you’re up for the challenge, we recommend that you read on before making any decisions.
Is It Too Late to Delete Your Twitter Account?
It’s never too late to delete your Twitter account. Unfortunately, there is no way to do it. The only time it can be deleted is if you sign up for a new account and cancel your old one.
First of all, you don’t even have the option to delete your account. As much as we wish we could, it is not possible. You can only delete your account by signing up for a new one and cancelling your old one.
And that might not be easy either because you will also need to change your username or handle in order to make the change happen. The best thing to do would just be to deactivate your old Twitter account while keeping it on standby in case you want it back at some point later on down the road.
Deactivating your account is the next best thing
So, you can’t delete your account. What can you do?
The next best thing you can do when you want to stop using Twitter is deactivating it. When you deactivate your account, everything associated with it will be removed. That includes tweets, followers, and favorites.
You’ll have the option to reactivate it at any point in the future, but for now it won’t be accessible. The deactivation process is simple and easy too! All you have to do is go to your settings and click “deactivate my account.” Doing so will keep your Tweets from showing up on other people’s feeds; they’ll still exist on your profile page though.
How to permanently delete your Twitter account
The only way to permanently delete your account is by requesting that Twitter removes it.
You might be thinking, “But I can’t delete my account!” And you’re right. You can’t delete your Twitter account on the app or website. But if you contact them, they will remove it for you.
Twitter makes this process a little tricky because there isn’t a formal “delete” button on their platform. They have an option for people to “deactivate” their accounts, which means that all of the information from their account will be removed except for the username and profile photo. This feature is not permanent and people can reactivate their accounts at any time.
To permanently delete your account, contact customer service at Twitter and tell them that you want to delete your account: https://twitter.com/help/contact
This will erase everything from your account and prevent any future access to it.
If you want to stop using Twitter but still keep it in case one day you want to return, don’t worry! There’s a solution for that as well: deactivate your account. When deactivated, this gives users more power over what is happening with their tweets while they are away from the site. You have the freedom to decide when you log back in if you want all of the posts deleted or left untouched so that they’re ready for when you return.
Alternatives to deleting your Twitter account
You can deactivate your account – which means it won’t show up in searches and timelines, but you’ll still be able to use other Twitter features.
You can start a new account with a different username.
You can make your account private so only people who follow you will see your Tweets.
Why You Shouldn’t Delete Your Twitter Account
While you can’t delete your account, there are ways to manage it. You can make your account private-allowing only people you authorize to see your Twitter feed. You can also limit the number of tweets you want to see daily.
There are also apps that will pop up in the upper right corner of your Twitter page and provide you with notifications about the things that interest you most. This way, you’ll be notified of new information without having to constantly log into your account.
If deleting your account is something you have been considering, talk it over with a friend or family member first. They may have insight into why you want to delete an account and might be able to help you come up with a plan for what comes next.
But if neither of those options seem like good solutions for you, then we’ve got one last thing for your consideration: turning off notifications on Twitter.
