The Chevrolet Corvette (C4) is a sports car produced by American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet from 1983 to 1996. The C4 replaced its venerable predecessor the C3 having remained largely unchanged with several facelifts excepting from 1968 through to 1982.
The C4, which is the fourth-generation Corvette came with an all-new chassis design and bodyshell.

Corvette was originally handbuilt in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri and was later built at a General Motors assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Bowling Green, Kentucky is also the home of the National Corvette Museum and annual National Corvette. The Corvette is the first all-American sports car built by an American car manufacturer.

The C4 actually went on sale to the public in 1984, the first designated year of production. Though radically revamped, the C4 still bore the original design hallmarks of a separate chassis with a two-seater plastic body though was much more refined than anything that had gone before.

Computer-controlled LED crystal instrument, high strength/low alloy galvanized steel for the one-piece uniframe, basecoat/clearcoat paint application, one-piece sheet molded (SMC) body panels which eliminated all bond seams, the use of urethane adhesive for stronger and more flexible body construction and magnesium/aluminum metals for lightweight and corrosion-free chassis and suspension.

Goodyear’s tires and wheels gave the car the agility it needed to deliver fantastic performance on the road because given a smooth surface the Corvette was unbeatable. Aluminum double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, both sprung by unusual glass-fiber transverse leaf springs and both with anti-roll bars.

Vented discs all around completed the package, which was stiffened even more for the European market. Combined with clean looks, lightweight and good aerodynamics, the Corvette promised much. The hatchback C4’s roof was removable with the technology at that time, it was a great task to get the roof off because it was securely bolted in to aid structural rigidity. This led to the return of the convertible in 1985.

The Chevrolet C4 Corvette has experienced new engines, transmission, chassis, features, body colors and so much more. Starting with a 235 cu-in 6-cylinder engine, the Corvette has since switched to a V8 with a horsepower that is improving each year. The small-block 350 V8 was carried over and was once again equipped with Cross-Fire throttle body fuel injection that was rated at 205 horsepower.
