What are the best measures to take if someone is bothering me with messages?

What are the best measures to take if someone is bothering me with messages? One of the questions that often bugs our mind, especially when someone tries to invade our private chat space with messages even when we do not want to chat.
Sometimes, we might not want to go to drastic measures like unfriending them possibly because they might be part of our Facebook audience, in various respects.
What are the best measures to take if someone is bothering me with messages?
What then are other measures we can take when things like this occur? In this post I will be showing you several other methods by which you can get your peace back without having to unfriend anybody, that is, if you are considerate of hurting peoples’ feelings.

If someone sends you a message on Facebook that makes you uncomfortable, you can:
  • Block messages from them. They won’t be able to contact you (example: send you messages or call you) in Messenger, or message you with Facebook chat. I will be guiding you on how this can be done.
For those using messages on Facebook on a computer:
If you are using a desktop, laptop or accessing Facebook from a system, in order to block messages from someone on Facebook:
  1. Click the messenger icon just before the notification icon (bell)  at the top right of the page
  2. Open the conversation with the person you’d like to block.
  3. Click the gear/settings icon at the top right of the chat box
  4. Click Block Messages > Block Messages

For those using the Messenger app for Facebook:

  1. Open the messenger application
  2. go to your messages list. This is where you find your chats.(the next tab is usually the active friends tab).
  3. Open the chat of the person you wish to block.
  4. Click the information icon at the top.(usually an “i” inside a circle.
  5. It takes you to a mini profile, under which you see a list.
  6. Click block.

Note: When you block messages from someone:

  • They’ll no longer be able to contact you (example: send you messages, call you) in Messenger or in Facebook chat.
  • You’ll also no longer be able to contact them in Messenger or in Facebook chat.
  • If you and the person you block are in a group conversation together, you’ll be notified before you enter the conversation. If you choose to enter a group conversation with the person you blocked, you’ll able to see their messages and they’ll be able to see yours in that conversation.
  • Report a threatening message. Note: If you want to report a secret conversation, the procedures are quite different but I will discuss that still under this post. So how do you give feedback on a conversation or report a conversation in Messenger.
Android:
  1. Open the conversation and tap the info icon.(an ”i” inside a circle)
  2. Scroll down and tap Something’s Wrong.
  3. Select a category to help give a brief idea of what’s wrong.
  4. Tap Send Feedback.
  5. Tap Report Conversation > Report to send the conversation to us for review.

iPhone and iPad:
  1. Open the conversation and tap the person’s name at the top.
  2. Scroll down and tap Something’s Wrong.
  3. Select a category to give a brief idea on what’s wrong.
  4. Tap Send.
  5. Tap Report Conversation to send the conversation to us for review.
Facebook normally won’t let the person know who reported them. Bear in mind that not everything that may be upsetting violates Facebook Community Standards. If these steps are too long for you, you can try the next option.
  •  Ignore the conversation. This can be done whether you are accessing Facebook from a laptop, desktop or even through messenger. I will be showing you how.
From a Computer:
  1. Click on the messenger icon.
  2. Go to the conversation you wish to ignore messages from.
  3. When the mini chat box opens, click on the gear/settings icon at the top-right.
  4. Click on ignore messages.
