For over 2 decades Suzuki was carefully working out modalities on what will become of the Jimny. The British are given a naturally aspirated four-cylinder 100bhp 1.5-liter petrol unit up from 1.3 liters mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. The former makes for a marginally more fuel-efficient car – 35.8mpg plays 32.2mpg on the WLTP cycle – but neither is quick, with a 0-62mph of around 12sec and a top speed in double figures.

Jimny Suzuki comes with only one engine choice which is the 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol unit that makes it 100bhp and 95lb-ft of torque without the help of a turbocharger. The engine is accompanied by a standard five-speed manual gearbox, reaching a top speed of 90mph.
The automatic version of transmission is available limited to only four gears. This is a serious setback for a mini 4×4 of the Jimny Suzuki class as the gear doesn’t change up until over 4000rpm. Struggling to get to motorway speed doesn’t sound that encouraging as there are other mini SUVs out there with much better performance.
Understandably, the Jimny is an off-roader meaning it wasn’t designed for the road. Its off-road capabilities are fantastical marvelous just try the Jimny out on rocky, muddy and any other terrain that one should think of with an off-roader, and the Jimny will certainly surprise you. This points to why the demand for this SUV is so high.
Suzuki made it that all the Jimnys come with a part-time, low-range four-wheel drive which is one of the selling points of the car because once it is engaged, there’s no other configuring required. unlike with the myriad settings in a Land Rover. Just hit hill descent control, if you like, and prepare to take on mud going up hills, gravel going down hills, or deep water with staggering capability. The similarly priced Dacia Duster 4×4 is almost as competent and puts on a good show taking on the same array of obstacles, but the Jimny can’t be beaten in this price range. The Jimny can outperform cars costing far more on a challenging off-road course, such as the Jeep Renegade.
