Since the launch of Facebook in 2004, the developers are still working tirelessly to improve the overall usability, flexibility, quality, and functioning of this valuable social mobile application.
Facebook as of today, has over 2 billion users all over the world at large thereby developing the area of communication, information, and also marketing for Facebook users who use this platform as a means to sell their goods and services for the purpose of maximising profit.
In the quest, to improve the quality and normal functioning of the Facebook Application to enable it to strive well even while using a connection as low as 2G, another application was designed called Facebook Lite.
Facebook Lite has created in 2015, it was designed to work on slow or unstable internet connections like 2G networks or in rural areas with a bad signal.
Interestingly, this application is almost as fully featured as the regular Facebook app. You can still like and comment on your friend’s posts, visit their profiles, post to your own Timeline, and do everything else you normally do just that this Lite version of Facebook takes up less space on your phone, runs faster, and eats less data than the regular Facebook.
Although Facebook Lite was also designed to fit in smaller android device and was launched in 2015, it arrived three years later for iOS users in 2018. Facebook Lite app was rolled out in Turkey initially and then slowly it was released for users across the globe.
The Lite app consumed only around 8.7 MB as compared to the 244MB of the main Facebook app. Though, it provided all the features of the regular Facebook app albeit with some restrictions like it never auto-played the video more did it ever display high-resolution images to lessen the data consumption.
“We’re always working to help people share and connect with their friends and family regardless of where they are accessing Facebook. When we first rolled out Facebook Lite as a standalone app, our goal was to deliver the power of a native app, with as many of the same features as possible while still being lightweight.
Up until now, Facebook Lite has only been available on Android and now we’re testing the experience on iOS. We’re committed to connecting people with the things they care about – no matter their connection, device, or where they live,” a Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider.
