When you block someone on Messenger you will no longer receive messages or chat requests from the blocked individual; you will also be unable to contact them.
Additionally, if the individual you choose to block is within a group conversation, you will be notified before entering the chat. If you decide to join a chat with a blocked individual, they will be able to converse with you within the context of that conversation.
It is essential to understand that blocking someone on Facebook Messenger does not block them on the entire Facebook platform – only from contacting you via the Messenger platform.
How to Block Individuals
If you have decided that you do wish to block an individual then follow the appropriate instructions below to do so from either the Messenger website or mobile app.
Instructions for Messenger Website
1. If you are not logged in already, log in with your Facebook credentials.
2. Scroll down to the individual you wish to block and hover over your existing conversation with your mouse.
3. While hovering over the individual’s name a gear symbol will appear on the righthand side of their name – click on it.
4. Select the option to Block Messages and confirm the decision.
Instructions for Messenger Mobile App
1. If you are not already logged in, log in with your Facebook credentials.
2. Scroll down to the individual you wish to block and hold your finger on their name until a pop-up dialog appears.
3. Select the More option in the dialog box.
4. Select the option to Block Messages and hit Done.
