Please note
Belmadeng is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with the EFCC. This is general, informational content — report crimes and check recruitment only through official EFCC channels (efcc.gov.ng). Beware fake “EFCC recruitment” sites and anyone asking for payment — the EFCC does not charge to apply. If a crime is in progress or you are in danger, contact the Police.
What the portal is
The EFCC’s online petition portal lets Nigerians at home and abroad report suspected fraud, money laundering, cybercrime and other financial offences online.
How to file
- Access the petition portal via efcc.gov.ng (“Report a Crime”).
- Provide your personal and case details.
- Write a detailed account of the alleged fraud or financial crime.
- Complete the security verification and submit.
Supporting documents
You can (and should) upload supporting documents — PDFs and images such as receipts, screenshots and records — to strengthen your petition. Each file typically must not exceed 10MB.
Be truthful
Provide accurate, truthful information. Knowingly filing a false petition is a criminal offence (punishable by imprisonment and/or a fine under Nigerian law), so only report what you genuinely believe to be true, with evidence.
Tips
- Prepare your evidence files (under the size limit) first.
- Be clear and specific in your account.
- Keep your reference to follow up.
How to write an EFCC petition
A petition is simply a formal written complaint asking the EFCC to act. Address it to The Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and structure it clearly:
- Your details — full name, address, phone, email.
- A clear subject line — e.g. “Formal complaint of fraudulent activity by [name]”.
- The facts — a chronological account: who, what, when, where, and how much.
- The suspect's details and all evidence attached.
- Your request — state plainly that you want an investigation and prosecution.
Type it, sign it, and keep copies before submitting.
Online vs written submission
You don't have to deliver a paper letter. You can email a scanned, signed copy to [email protected], or submit through the Eagle Eye app — both are valid and faster than travelling. A physical written petition to the headquarters or a zonal command is still fine if you prefer, and an EFCC officer will put a complaint into writing for anyone who cannot write it themselves. Choose the channel that gets your evidence in most reliably.
After you submit
Once submitted, record your reference/complaint number and keep your copy of the petition and evidence. The EFCC receives a very high volume of complaints, so response times vary; you may be invited to give a formal recorded statement, so respond promptly and bring your identification and evidence. There's no fixed approval timeline, so be patient but persistent — a polite follow-up quoting your reference number is reasonable if you hear nothing. See what happens after a report.
