Contents & notes: what this topic covers

Under Inequalities, the JAMB Mathematics syllabus expects you to study:

  • (a) analytical and graphical solutions of linear inequalities;
  • (b) quadratic inequalities with integral roots only.

Study notes & guidance

Study Inequalities using a recommended Mathematics textbook that follows the JAMB syllabus. Work through the contents listed above one by one, make brief notes in your own words, and then practise as many questions on this topic as you can — in Mathematics, understanding and steady practice matter far more than memorising. Use the objectives below as a checklist: if you can do each one confidently, you have mastered this topic.

Objectives — candidates should be able to

After studying Inequalities, you should be able to:

  1. Find the subject of the formula of a given equation;
  2. Apply factor and remainder theorem to factorize a given expression;
  3. Multiply, divide polynomials of degree not more than 3 and determine values of defined and undefined expression; (f) simultaneous equations including one linear one quadratic; (g) graphs of polynomials of degree not greater than 3.

These objectives are from the official JAMB syllabus. Use them as a checklist — if you can do each one confidently, you have mastered this topic.

Then practise: the fastest way to lock in a topic is to test yourself under time. Go to CBT practice →
