Contents & notes: what this topic covers

Under Representation of data, the JAMB Mathematics syllabus expects you to study:

  • (a) frequency distribution;
  • (b) histogram, bar chart and pie chart.

Study notes & guidance

Study Representation of data using a recommended Mathematics textbook that follows the JAMB syllabus. Work through the contents listed above one by one, make brief notes in your own words, and then practise as many questions on this topic as you can — in Mathematics, understanding and steady practice matter far more than memorising. Use the objectives below as a checklist: if you can do each one confidently, you have mastered this topic.

Objectives — candidates should be able to

After studying Representation of data, you should be able to:

  1. Calculate the sine, cosine and tangent of angles between - 360º ≤ Ɵ ≤ 360º;
  2. Apply these special angles, e.g. 30º, 45º, 60º, 75º, 90º, 1050, 135º to solve simple problems in trigonometry;
  3. Solve problems involving angles of elevation and depression;
  4. Solve problems involving bearings;
  5. Apply trigonometric formulae to find areas of triangles;
  6. Solve problems involving sine and cosine graphs.

These objectives are from the official JAMB syllabus. Use them as a checklist — if you can do each one confidently, you have mastered this topic.
