Data prices and bundles change constantly — every price here is indicative only. Always confirm the current plan by dialling the official code (the unified *312#) or using the network’s own app before buying. USSD codes can also change — verify on the network’s official channel.

The universal code

On all networks, dial *323# to check your data balance (and usually the expiry date). It's the simplest, no-internet way — memorise it.

MTN

*323#, or text 2 to 131, or the MyMTN app (also shows *559# for account info on some lines). See MTN data.

Airtel

*323#, or the Airtel/MyAirtel app. See Airtel data.

Glo

*323#, or text INFO to 127, or the Glo Café/MyGlo app. See Glo data.

9mobile

*323#, or the My9mobile app.

Reading expiry

Your balance check usually shows remaining data and an expiry date. Data expires whether or not you've used it, so note the date — and if you're near expiry with data left, plan your usage or top up strategically.

Tips

  • *323# works everywhere.
  • Note the expiry date, not just the balance.
  • Apps show bonus/night data separately.

Balance-check codes by network

Knowing your remaining data prevents nasty surprises. The quick USSD checks:

Each returns your remaining data and often the expiry date by SMS or on-screen. The network apps show the same information, usually with a clearer usage breakdown.

Track usage before it runs out

Checking your balance is reactive; tracking usage is proactive. The network apps and your phone's built-in data-usage monitor show which apps consume the most, so you can rein in the heavy ones before they drain your bundle. Many networks also send alerts at 75% and 100% of a bundle. Glancing at your balance before a big download or video session — not after — is the habit that keeps you from being caught out mid-task.

Why expiry matters

Data doesn't only run out by use — it also expires. Most plans have a validity window (daily, weekly, monthly), after which unused data is lost unless the plan supports rollover and you renew in time. So when you check your balance, note the expiry date too: if you've plenty of data but it's about to expire, plan to use or renew it. Matching your plan choice to how fast you actually use data avoids paying for gigabytes that expire unused.
