Please note & stay safe

Belmadeng is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with NIMC. This is an informational guide — enrol, check, retrieve or modify your NIN only through official NIMC channels (nimc.gov.ng, the NIMC self-service portal, the official NIMC MobileID app, or an accredited enrolment centre). Never share your NIN, OTP or personal details with unofficial websites, apps or people, and never pay “agents” promising shortcuts.

Check with *346# (USSD)

The fastest way — no internet needed:

  1. Use the phone number you registered with NIMC.
  2. Dial *346#.
  3. Select NIN Retrieval (usually “1”).
  4. Confirm the small charge (around ₦20 deducted by your network).
  5. Your 11-digit NIN is shown/sent by SMS.

(Some networks also allow *996# → option 3 → 1.)

Check with the NIMC app

The official NIMC MobileID app lets you view your NIN and details for free, 24/7, using the SIM linked to your NIMC record. Download it only from the official app stores.

Check your NIN slip

If you have your enrolment slip, your NIN is the 11-digit number printed on it (usually top-left).

If your registered line has changed

*346# only works on the number you registered. If you no longer have that line, visit a NIMC enrolment centre with a valid ID to retrieve your NIN and update your phone number.

Stay safe

NIMC does not let you retrieve your full NIN through a random public website. Never send your NIN, OTP or personal details to “checker” sites or strangers on social media — those are scams.

Checking with *346#

The quickest way to find your NIN is the official USSD code: dial *346# from the phone number you registered with NIMC, and follow the prompts (choosing the retrieve-NIN option). Your NIN is then displayed or sent to you. The essential condition is that you must use the same phone number linked to your NIMC record — the code won't retrieve your NIN on a different line. This works across networks and is the method most people use day to day.

The app and your slip

Two other reliable options. First, the NIMC official mobile app (NIMC MobileID / MWS): install it, log in with your details, and you can view your NIN and manage your digital ID. Second, your enrolment slip: your NIN is the 11-digit number, typically on the top-left of the slip issued when you enrolled. Between the USSD code, the app and your slip, you have several ways to confirm your NIN without visiting an office — and if all else fails, an ERC can help (see retrieval).

Keeping your NIN safe

Your NIN is sensitive personal data, so treat it carefully. Don't share it casually or post it online, and be cautious about who you give it to. For verification situations, Nigeria provides the Virtual NIN (VNIN) — a tokenised stand-in for your real NIN — so third parties can verify you without holding your actual number (see verification). Use only official channels (the *346# code, the NIMC app, or an ERC), and ignore any website or “agent” asking for your NIN and personal details outside those channels.
