Please note & stay safe

Belmadeng is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with NIMC. This is an informational guide — enrol, check, retrieve or modify your NIN only through official NIMC channels (nimc.gov.ng, the NIMC self-service portal, the official NIMC MobileID app, or an accredited enrolment centre). Never share your NIN, OTP or personal details with unofficial websites, apps or people, and never pay “agents” promising shortcuts.

What the NIN slip is

The NIN slip is the document showing your 11-digit NIN and basic details. It is widely accepted as proof of your NIN while you await (or alongside) the national ID card.

Types of slip

  • Standard NIN slip — the basic printout issued at enrolment.
  • Improved / premium slip — a more durable, card-style slip some centres offer.
  • Digital NIN — your NIN and details in the official NIMC MobileID app.

How to print/download

You can view and generate your digital NIN in the official NIMC app, or reprint the standard slip through the NIMC self-service portal or at an enrolment centre.

Reprint fee

A standard NIN slip reissue costs a small official fee (recent guides report around ₦600). Fees change — confirm the current amount on the official NIMC portal.

Slip vs ID card

The slip proves your NIN; the national ID card is the physical smart card. For most day-to-day purposes the slip (or digital NIN) is accepted, but the card is the full credential.

Tips

  • Keep your NIN slip safe and private.
  • Use the digital NIN in the app for convenience.
  • Only reprint through official channels.

The old slip vs the Improved NIN Slip

NIMC has been replacing the old paper NIN slip with the Improved NIN Slip (INS). The older slip was large, carried more information (including your home address), and was seen as easy to copy and prone to misuse. The Improved NIN Slip is smaller and more pocket-friendly, carries less intrusive information (for example, no home address), and is designed to be instantly verifiable, with the holder having more control over copies of their identity. It's the current standard slip issued to holders.

Standard and Premium sizes

The Improved NIN Slip comes in two sizes — Standard and Premium — both available to NIN holders, so you can pick the format that suits you. New enrolees are generally issued the Improved slip, while those who hold an older slip can obtain the new one. There's an official fee for the premium slip (indicative figures circulate, but confirm the current price on NIMC's official channel, as pricing and taxes can change). The physical National ID card is a separate credential from the slip — see national ID card.

Printing your slip

A big convenience of the improved system is that you can get your slip without visiting an office. Using the NIMC mobile app (and your login details/OTP), or the appropriate official self-service channel, you can select the Standard or Premium slip, pay any applicable fee, and download it for printing. You'll typically need your NIN/UserID and OTP to authenticate. Use only official NIMC channels to print or pay for a slip, and be wary of third-party sites charging inflated fees for what NIMC provides directly.
