Why get it right

Your date of birth must be consistent across your birth record, NIN, school records and certificates — mismatches cause problems with exams, admission, passport and banking.

Via attestation (adults)

If you’re an adult correcting your birth details, the Attestation of Birth process lets you adjust your date of birth after NIN validation — producing a verifiable NPC document with the corrected date.

The ±5-year rule

An important limit: when adjusting your date of birth via attestation, the new date must not differ by more than five years from the original. Plan accordingly.

Correcting a child’s record

For a registered child’s certificate, corrections are made through the NPC (portal/centre) with supporting evidence — confirm the current process on the official portal.
