Core criteria

You generally qualify if you are a Nigerian citizen with a valid NIN, within the age range, with at least basic education and a fundable business.

Age 18–40

The revamped NYIF targets youths aged 18 to 40. (Earlier editions used a narrower range, so always confirm the age band for the current window.)

Education

Applicants typically need a minimum of a secondary school certificate or equivalent. Both employed and unemployed youths may apply.

A fundable business

You need a fundable business idea or an existing enterprise with growth potential, aligned to NYIF's priority sectors (e.g. agriculture, technology, creative industries).

Existing government loans

Applicants generally should not have an existing loan with a government financial institution (to avoid conflicts). A clean credit history helps, though it may not strictly disqualify first-time borrowers.

Tips

  • Confirm the current age band for the open window.
  • Align your business to a priority sector.
  • Avoid conflicting government loans.
