What it is
Post-UTME (Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) is the screening a tertiary institution conducts after JAMB to select from the candidates who chose it and met its JAMB cut-off. It's the school's own filter, run on the school's portal — not by JAMB.
Why schools run it
JAMB places many candidates competing for limited spaces. Post-UTME lets each institution rank applicants further — verifying eligibility and (often) testing readiness — to decide who to admit.
Where it fits
It sits in the middle of three stages: JAMB/UTME (the national exam) → Post-UTME (this) → admission via CAPS (the offer). You do Post-UTME after your UTME result is out.
The forms it takes
Depending on the school, Post-UTME may be a written/CBT test, a screening based on your JAMB and O'Level results (no written test), or a combination. The outcome feeds an aggregate score used to rank you.
Only where you chose
You do Post-UTME at the institution you selected in JAMB (or one you've validly changed to via change of institution). Meeting the school's JAMB cut-off is the ticket to be screened.
Tips
- It's your school's screening, not JAMB's.
- Comes after your UTME result.
- Format varies by school.
