Youth funding explained
Several programmes target young Nigerians with capital, training and opportunities. Some are grants (non-repayable); others are loans. Know which is which before you apply.
Programmes to know
Youth-focused programmes have included (verify each officially):
- YEIDEP — Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme, offering grants (reported ranges around ₦50,000–₦500,000) plus training and mentorship.
- NiYA — the Nigerian Youth Academy (FMYD), offering training and pathways to opportunities.
- Bank of Industry YES — youth entrepreneurship support (loans and grants).
Grants vs the youth loan (NYIF)
The Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) is a loan for youth businesses — not a grant. It's a great option, but you repay it, unlike the grants above. See grants vs loans.
Getting ready
Get your NIN, a bank account, and (for business programmes) a plan and possibly CAC registration. Some programmes require training.
Applying safely
Apply only on official channels within the window; never pay a fee (see scams).
