Belmadeng is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with the NCC. This is general information — use official NCC channels (ncc.gov.ng, the Consumer Portal, DND 2442 and the toll-free line 622). Short codes, tariffs and processes can change and vary by network — confirm with the NCC or your operator.

Step 1: your operator first

Start with your operator’s customer care (call centre, app, social media or a service centre). Get a complaint/ticket reference and give them a reasonable chance to resolve it.

Step 2: escalate to the NCC (622)

If your operator doesn’t resolve it (or you’re unsatisfied), escalate to the NCC on the toll-free number 622. This is the NCC’s channel for complaints not settled by the service provider.

The Consumer Portal

You can also lodge/track complaints on the NCC Consumer Portal (consumer.ncc.gov.ng).

What the NCC handles

Common complaints: poor network quality, unauthorised VAS deductions, data/airtime billing issues, porting problems, and SIM-swap concerns. The NCC can require operators to resolve issues or face sanctions.

Prepare your complaint

Have ready: your number, the operator’s ticket reference, dates, amounts, and evidence (screenshots, transaction records).

Tips

  • Operator first, get a reference.
  • Escalate to 622 if unresolved.
  • Keep evidence and dates.

The 622 toll-free line (and 112 for emergencies)

The NCC's dedicated consumer line is 622 — a toll-free number for escalating complaints your network didn't resolve. It's the single most useful number to remember for any telecom problem: unresolved billing disputes, persistent unsolicited messages, poor service, or unfair deductions. (Separately, 112 is Nigeria's toll-free emergency line — not for telecom complaints, but worth knowing.)

Every way to reach the NCC

You can bring a complaint to the NCC through several channels — use whichever suits you:

Whichever you choose, have your details ready (your number, the operator, dates, amounts, and what you've already done) so the NCC can act quickly.

The two-step rule: operator first, NCC second

There's an order that gets results fastest. Step one: complain to your network operator first — through their customer care line, app, or a service centre — and get a complaint/ticket reference. Operators are obliged to try to resolve your issue. Step two: if they don't resolve it satisfactorily, escalate to the NCC on 622 with your reference. The NCC's role is chiefly to step in when your operator has failed you, so having tried them first (and keeping the evidence) makes your escalation far stronger.
