The self-care apps

Each provider has an app for account self-service: MyDStv, MyGOtv and StarTimes ON. Use them to pay, change package, reconnect, and check your due date — far faster than visiting an office.

Reconnect after paying

If you've paid but service hasn't returned, trigger a reconnection: in the app tap reconnect/clear error, or for DStv send the reconnection SMS to 30330 (with your smartcard number). Give it a few minutes and ensure the decoder is on.

Common error codes

Most on-screen errors mean either payment/subscription lapsed or a signal problem. First confirm your subscription is active (app), then clear the error via the app/SMS; if it's signal, check the dish/antenna and cables.

No signal / E-codes

“No signal” or E-type codes usually point to hardware/alignment: loose cable, moved dish/antenna, bad weather, or line-of-sight blocked by new trees/buildings. Re-seat cables, check alignment, and if unresolved, get an installer.

Change package

Upgrade or downgrade in the app. Upgrades usually take effect immediately (you pay the difference); downgrades often apply from your next cycle.

When to get support

Contact official support for billing disputes, decoder faults, or errors the app can't clear. Use the provider's official contacts — for airtime/data billing complaints (not pay-TV), the regulator route is on our NCC billing page.

Tips

  • Install the self-care app.
  • Paid but off? Reconnect via app/SMS.
  • No signal? Check cables & alignment.

The self-service apps and codes

You can handle most things without calling anyone. Each provider has a self-service app and site — MyDStv, MyGOtv, StarTimes ON — plus USSD (e.g. DStv *288#) for paying, changing bouquet, checking your due date, and clearing errors. For DStv/GOtv, the quickest reconnect after payment is to send “RA <your smartcard or IUC number>” to 30330 from your registered phone. Bookmark the official self-service pages so you're not hunting for them when your screen goes blank.

Fix common errors yourself

Most on-screen errors have simple fixes:

Trying the re-authorise step first resolves a large share of “I paid but it's not working” cases.

No-signal troubleshooting

A no-signal message usually isn't a subscription problem — it's the dish/antenna or cable. Check that the dish hasn't shifted (wind, knocks), the cable from the LNB is firmly connected and undamaged, and the decoder is tuned to the right information channel. Heavy rain can cause temporary “rain fade” that clears by itself. If the picture stays gone after the weather clears and cables look fine, a dish re-alignment (or an installer visit) is the fix — not another payment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reconnect my pay-TV after paying?
In your provider's app tap reconnect/clear error; for DStv you can also send the reconnection SMS to 30330 with your smartcard number — then wait a few minutes with the decoder on.
What do pay-TV error codes mean?
Most mean either your subscription lapsed or there's a signal problem — confirm your subscription is active in the app and clear the error, or check the dish/antenna and cables if it's a signal issue.
Why does my decoder say 'No signal'?
Usually a hardware or alignment issue — a loose cable, a moved dish/antenna, bad weather, or blocked line-of-sight; re-seat cables and check alignment, and call an installer if needed.
How do I change my pay-TV package?
In the self-care app — upgrades usually take effect immediately (you pay the difference) and downgrades often apply from your next billing cycle.
Which apps let me manage my pay-TV?
MyDStv, MyGOtv and StarTimes ON — for paying, changing package, reconnecting and checking your due date.
How do I manage my pay-TV account myself?
Use the provider's self-service app or site (MyDStv, MyGOtv, StarTimes ON) or USSD (e.g. DStv *288#) to pay, change bouquet, check your due date and clear errors. For DStv/GOtv, reconnect by sending 'RA ' to 30330.
How do I fix a 'not subscribed' error after paying?
Confirm your payment cleared, then re-authorise the decoder — for DStv/GOtv send 'RA ' to 30330 with the decoder on and a clear signal. This resolves most 'I paid but it's not working' cases.
What does DStv error E30 mean?
E30 means the smartcard isn't paired with the decoder. You'll need to contact provider support to re-pair the card and decoder — it's not a payment issue.
Why does my decoder say 'no signal'?
Usually a dish/antenna or cable problem, not your subscription — check the dish hasn't shifted, the LNB cable is firm and undamaged, and you're on the right channel. Heavy rain causes temporary 'rain fade' that clears itself; persistent loss means a re-alignment.
Can I change my pay-TV package myself?
Yes — change your bouquet in the provider's self-service app or website, or via USSD. Upgrades/downgrades typically take effect quickly, with any difference pro-rated against your remaining days.
