What CVR is
Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is INEC’s exercise for registering new voters and updating/transferring existing records. It runs in windows ahead of elections — it is not open all the time.
Why it opens & closes
INEC opens CVR to build and update the register, then closes it a set period before an election so the register can be finalised (this timing is set by law). After an election cycle it may pause until the next round.
Why it can pause by state
CVR can be suspended in a particular state or area when INEC needs to finalise the register for an off-cycle election there — so timing can differ by location.
Is it open now?
Always confirm the current status. CVR dates change and are extended, and the portal shows when the exercise is not currently active. INEC has been running CVR ahead of the 2027 general elections. Check cvr.inecnigeria.org or inecnigeria.org for whether registration is open where you are, and the latest dates.
Watch the deadline
Register (or transfer/update) well before the announced deadline — you cannot register in the final stretch before an election, and processing takes time.
Tips
- Don’t wait for the deadline — register early in the window.
- Confirm the current status on the official portal.
- Sign up for INEC updates if the exercise is closed.
