This is an informational guide — apply, renew and pay for your passport only on the official NIS portal (passport.immigration.gov.ng) or the official NIS Mobile app, and pay online only. Beware clone websites and touts, and never pay “agents” promising same-day passports or shortcuts.

What changed in 2025

From 1 September 2025, domestic passport fees were revised to ₦100,000 (32-page) and ₦200,000 (64-page) — up from ₦50,000 and ₦100,000.

Diaspora fees

For applications abroad, the fees remained $150 (5-year) and $230 (10-year). Embassies/consulates may add local service, postage or appointment charges.

No more minor/senior discounts

The old discounted categories for minors and seniors no longer apply — the standard ₦100,000/₦200,000 fees now apply across the board.

How to pay

Pay only online through the official NIS portal. No cash is accepted at passport offices — paying a tout risks your money and your data.

Tips

  • Choose 32 vs 64 page based on how often you travel.
  • Confirm the exact fee on the portal before paying.
  • Keep your payment receipt.

The current fee structure

Domestic Nigerian passport fees were revised upward from 1 September 2025. As indicative current figures: the 32-page (5-year) booklet is ₦100,000 and the 64-page (10-year) booklet is ₦200,000 for applications made within Nigeria. Diaspora fees (applying from abroad) are set in dollars and were unchanged at around $150 (32-page/5-year) and $230 (64-page/10-year). Because passport fees have changed more than once recently, treat these as indicative and confirm the current amount on the official NIS portal before paying.

Paying online, safely

Passport fees are paid online through the official NIS portal (debit/credit card), and you should keep your payment confirmation, receipt and reference number. Paying through the official channel is important: it's the only legitimate route, and it protects you from “facilitators” who ask for cash. Embassies and consulates abroad may add appointment, processing, postage or local service charges on top of the federal fee, so if you're applying from abroad, confirm the final payable amount with the specific mission where you'll do biometrics.

No discounts, no fast-track

Two things worth knowing. First, renewal costs the same as a fresh passport — there's no discounted renewal rate; the fee depends on the booklet/validity you choose, not on whether it's your first passport. Second, no one can legitimately “fast-track” your passport for extra cash — promises of same-day or guaranteed express in exchange for a bribe are scams or corruption. The official fee is the official fee; pay it through the portal and be wary of anyone quoting a much higher “all-in” figure that includes an unofficial markup.
