Standard (green) passports
The everyday Nigerian passport is the standard green booklet, available as:
- 32-page, 5-year validity — ₦100,000.
- 64-page, 10-year validity — ₦200,000.
(A 64-page/5-year option has also existed.) More pages mean more room for visas and stamps.
The enhanced e-passport
The Enhanced E-Passport is the upgraded booklet with polycarbonate technology for better security and durability, and a 10-year validity option that saves frequent trips to passport offices.
Official & diplomatic
Official (blue) and Diplomatic passports are issued only to government officials and diplomats — they are not part of the standard public application.
Which should you choose?
- 32-page (5-year): lower cost — good if you travel occasionally.
- 64-page (10-year): more pages and longer validity — best for frequent travellers who fill pages quickly and want fewer renewals.

The Nigerian passport lets you travel across ECOWAS member states in West Africa.

Standard, official and diplomatic
The Nigeria Immigration Service issues three kinds of biometric e-passport, distinguished by cover and purpose:
- Standard passport (green) — for ordinary Nigerian citizens; this is what the vast majority apply for.
- Official passport (blue) — for government officials travelling on official duty.
- Diplomatic passport — for diplomats and senior officials.
For an ordinary traveller, the standard (green) passport is the one that applies.
Pages and validity
Within the standard passport you choose a booklet size and validity. The common civilian options are the 32-page (5-year) and the 64-page (10-year) booklets (a 64-page/5-year has also existed). Which to pick? Choose the 64-page/10-year if you travel often, fill pages quickly with visas and stamps, or want fewer trips to the passport office; choose the 32-page when lower cost matters more than page count. The longer-validity booklet costs more up front but can save renewals over the years.
The enhanced e-passport
Nigeria's current passport is the enhanced e-passport, a reform of the older e-passport booklet. Its improvements include polycarbonate technology for a more durable, higher-security data page, a 10-year validity option that reduces how often you renew, and a more automated issuance process designed to cut touting and middlemen. It remains an ICAO-compliant biometric passport, and Nigerian citizens can use it to travel visa-free (or on simplified terms) within ECOWAS member states, as well as internationally subject to each country's visa rules.
