The faster option (APAP)
The NIS Automated Passport Application Process (APAP) targets a one-week turnaround in optimised cases. Centralised passport production (launched in Abuja in 2025) has also increased capacity.

- Appointment scarcity at busy centres (the biggest practical delay).
- A NIN/data mismatch flagged during verification.
- Booklet/production queues.
- Document problems.

- Book your appointment early, or pick a less-busy centre.
- Prepare every document correctly.
If it’s late
Track your application, and if it’s stuck, contact the NIS or your processing centre through official channels. Don’t pay touts to “fast-track” — that’s a scam or corruption.
