What the re-sit is
The BECE re-sit is a second-chance exam for candidates who had a conditional deficiency — that is, they did well overall but fell short in a key subject. It lets them remedy the deficiency and gain full certification for SS1.
Who qualifies
It is for candidates with a deficiency in Mathematics or English Studies (or both) — not a general re-take of the whole exam. Your school/result will indicate if you need it.
Which subjects
The re-sit covers Mathematics and English Studies only — the two subjects most essential to certification.
When it holds
NECO schedules the re-sit after the main results. For 2026, the NECO BECE re-sit held on 22–23 July 2026. Confirm current dates with NECO/your school.
How to sit it
Eligible candidates are registered for the re-sit through their school, following NECO’s instructions. Prepare specifically for the affected subject(s).
Tips
- Don’t panic — a deficiency in Maths/English is fixable via the re-sit.
- Focus your revision on the exact subject you need to pass.
