Why students need a NIN

A valid NIN is now compulsory for exam registration. Your NIN ties your registration to your verified identity and helps prevent impersonation and duplicate entries.

Which exams need it

  • JAMB (UTME/DE) — you need a NIN to create your JAMB profile.
  • WAEC and NECO — NIN is required for registration.
  • NABTEB — NIN is required.
  • Even BECE and school records increasingly use it.

If your details are wrong

Your name and date of birth on your NIN should match your school records and certificates, because exam bodies validate against NIMC. If they don’t match, correct them before you register — a mismatch can block or complicate your registration.
